We need a reserve team next season, but because of the tight fisted board we probably won‘t..
The reserve league usually plays games once a fortnight throughout the season as well as a cup competition. Far better than random bounce games against opposing sides who treat them like glorified training sessions.
They need not necessarily play home games at BP. Gillford Park, Frenchfields or Raydale Park might be possible options.
.
It will allow players not in the starting eleven to get competitive games under their belt in preparation for the 1st team.
Players recovering from injury will get a chance to play in a game before throwing them into the starting eleven.
The development players will get to play with and against open age players on a regular basis. At the moment players signed from the youth set up are getting few games and the occasional seat on the bench. They need games to improve and sending them out on loan is not always the answer.
A chance to look at tralists in proper games as well as in training,
FFS if Morecambe, Gateshead and even Workington can manage to run reserve sides why can’t we?
It’s no coincidence that the last two times we’ve abandoned the reserve team the club has gone into decline.

If think a reserve side / a development team is somthing that curle seems to be after. Sign young players from the premier league youth academies who have not quite made it , a couple of our own youth players and a few player recovering from injury or on the out skirts of the team. Could done with a squad of 24.

The stupid thing is if you lease a 19 seat mini bus instead of the 15 seat one they have now and put a coach/physio thru his test the only cost is the diesel which you get someone to sponsor and then if you want to play at Frenchfields you let them have a couple of our youths on dual registration in leiu

This would be too complicated for the powers that be put our club.

Should be part of League Membership that you run a reserve side.
Premier League ruined the old reserve set-up...

Not with someone who knows what theyre doing who has studied how other clubs do it it wouldnt yeah let me think who would be best oh yeah a fan
Morecambe have half a dozen people at the club who can drive theres and actually hire it out to transport other teams around.

Totally agree it's long overdue that we reintroduce a reserve side for the reasons stated above the roll up games are a waste of time and way to infrequent. We would never have found the likes of Beardsley, if we hadn't had a reserve side, it would be a huge boost to finding new talent, give pitch time to fringe players and a way back for injured players.

But if Champ and Prem teams play reserve team fixtures, how are they going to play JPT games?

I bring this up every close season ! Not gonna happen but its always the best option for squad players to have regular competitive games to keep them sharp and with something to play for .

Played against Carlisle reserves for many years in the carlisle district league until it folded and CUFC dropped the reserve side. There is no reason why Carlisle couldn't play a reserve side in the County league, they play these sides in the County cup, most ties are very competitive. If you have squad of 24-28 first team plus youth players surplus ,trial its etc .Plenty scope for a reserve team.

I guess the most important question is who would fund it?
Jenkins wants 2 million back for running the spot incompetently, one director is only in it for the FL/FA perks and the other hasn't got a pot to piss in apparently.
That money raised by the fans would've been better used getting the reserve side up&running; than a seldom used player.

My dad played in the reserve team as a goalie in the late 70's / early 80's, ( was friends with Peter Beardsley who was also at my parents wedding ) unfortunately never played for the first team but always recounts how Bobby Moncur went to his house to convince my grandad to let him sign when he's had a few drinks at Christmas. Another story he tells is when he was playing in the Cumberland Cup away at Aspatria and someone hit him over the head with a metal pole. Played on till the end apparently but cant remember anything about it. On the subject i agree we should have a reserve team. Maybe not the Cumberland league as it's quite weak but definetly the Wearside league .

Maybe we should have another crowd fund and the money raised only released to the club if they start up a reserve team.

That's a good idea but this what CUOSC should be pushing toward but, despite being second biggest shareholder they are behind Nixon and Pattison.
CUOSC need to realise they can drive this club now, with guidance from EWM if they call in the loan. Force the Custodians out.
