... thread about ticket queues!
Just been to BP for a ticket for my grandson for tomorrow. There was a queue of about 6 people. After the first 2 seemed to take ages I stopped grumbling with the fellow in front and timed the next transaction - over 5 mins. The next one also took over 5 mins, but halfway through they opened the second hatch. Sadly as soon as the guy at the first hatch was finished they closed it!! During this a guy in a works van who had joined the queue looked at his watch and left without being served. I wonder if he`ll be there tomorrow? Then the chap in front asked for a senior and an adult ticket. This took 3.5 mins. At last it was me - after a wait of over 20 mins to serve 5 people. I just wanted 1 junior ticket, obviously not for my personal use. Yet I had to give my name, address, season ticket seat number. all of which were laboriously entered into the computer. It took another 3.5 mins - for 1 ticket!
In the 1960`s as a lad I joined 40,000 at Cardiff to see City play in the first division (good old days) or 65,000 to see Wales. Everyone payed on the day and there were at most 50 gates which opened less than 2 hours before KO. I reckon they were getting through in about 5-10 seconds each.
Perhaps the new non-exec fans rep on the Board could ask a few questions - like
how often does the computer break down?
what significant benefit is there in retaking info from purchasers which is already on the database?
how long is buying a simple single ticket meant to take?
did the club know that before they got the system?

It was so easier to attend games in the 90's, just turn up and pay at the gate. If they were any big games keep hold of your ticket stubs from the matches/round before simple.

Its far too slow to get a ticket, went on Thursday for Hartlepool tickets its bureaucratic nonsense 5 minutes to get a ticket. I don't see how providing my details for those tickets serves any purpose whatsoever.

I went down last Friday to get tickets, I wanted 2 flexi cards then tickets off them for Cambridge and Wimbledon plus a ticket for my 6 year old for Cambridge. It took so long the wee blonde lassie behind the counter burst into tears and one of the others had to come over and finish the transaction for her. I felt awful, worse than watching our defence

Just been down for tomorrows tickets, quite a healthy que. Only took a couple of mins. 1 adult 1 junior, asked for the seats I normally sit in, got them no probs, didn't ask for my postcode or owt. I've got one of those keyring cowies, but wasn't asked for that either. Got my loyalty card stamped and was on my way. Quick easy transaction. Never have any problems. I must just be a lucky ducky!

Ordering over the phone never seems to be too much of an issue, maybe just takes a bit longer than it should. That said, I bought three tickets for Cambridge and Wimbledon and collected them last weekend, only to find that both sets of tickets were unreadable and useless as they were only half printed and you couldn't see the seat numbers. It won't be an issue as I'll phone up again and ask what the numbers are, but it makes us look a bit amateurish when we can't even print 6 tickets properly. The man at the turnstile last week told me to sit anywhere as it wouldn't be busy, but of course we ended up moving several times because people insisted on sitting in their exact seat, which is fair enough.

We've always purchased away & cup tickets over the phone & I must say we've never had any problems until this season. The new system seems to be causing a few problems. Away tickets not next to each other being one issue. I feel sorry for the girls in the ticket office though, they're doing their best with a system which is new to them & obviously causing issues plus they appear to have new staff also. Hopefully the problems will be ironed out soon.

Went down for tickets for Chesterfield and Cambridge game, wanted adult and young person tickets for both games in same seat in D stand. Waited for 20 mins in queue and got required seats for Chesterfield game , ok. Turn up Saturday for Cambridge and they have given me B stand, my fault for not checking at time of purchase I suppose but it wasn't a difficult request, reading the frequent comments on here perhaps the staff need more training or as suggested more windows to ease pressure.

Anybody know if cash window tomorrow as may not go if not, don't fancy large queue to get a ticket

I've not seen anything from the club to suggest there will be a cash gate tomorrow. It's essential in my opinion, particularly if they're going down the 'express sale' route. Just open these cash gates from 2:30 onwards at the same time they stop taking postcodes.

I appreciate this system is new but if it's slow due to no fault of the people inputting the data how the hell is it supposed to speed up? Or is the programming of it not fit for purpose?

From the article:

“Fans who want their booking history to be tracked, with future fixtures where priority sales will be needed in mind, should make their purchase before those timings and their details will be taken as normal.”

I would suggest a lot of folk don't want to give details anyway, so why not have a permanent 'express' line that is just about selling tickets and none of the other faff?

so if everyone turns up after 2.30 and want to use the 'express' line, then surely it won't be an express line with people waiting.. the original windows with no queues will by default become the express line even though they will no doubt be unable to issue tickets without being notified of your postcode, blood group, latest chest x-rays etc etc.

No i shall continue to boycott until the horsemen go.. im not missing it either. Looking forward to an away day next week. As i said ive found cycling as an enjoyable alternative. I may be stubborn but guess we are all different and ive chosen not to attend home games sick of the way these have treat fans with utter contempt with poor running of the club and poor decisions.

COMPLAINT No. 7,873,214...

My mam & dad are scabbing against my boycott beliefs and going to the game today  . She's been on the blower moaning that when she's printed out their tickets at home, it also printed out 2 x pretty much A4 colour club crest (waste of printer ink). Any point in this being part of the ticket?

The scabs!

Admin never really been a strong point of the club!!! Tried to get Hartlepool tickets last year and gave up in the end. Finished up ordering them from the Hartlepool club. They were brilliant. Picked them just before the match. Efficient, friendly service. Hoping to get tickets for next week's game at BP later today. Probably be phoning Hartlepool Monday morning

Why would they ? However last season I had a loyalty card issue. The lass in the Cumberland said once it was full that was it. you didn`t get another to carry over into this season. Wrong info - so when I got tickets at BP I mentioned it, the lass looked on my Purchasing Record, by me giving her my POST CODE and she could see which other games I`d been to and stamped me up another card.
If you want to go to a music gig and go through ticketmaster would you not expect to give your name, address. postcode . Just coz you do it every game it seems a chore. Give it a rest

The postcode issue some have on here doesn't bother me, what does bother me in regards to tickets is the fact that both your first name and surname are printed on the ticket

Printing your full name on the ticket is a strange one. It's something I keep meaning to ask about. If it's a security thing it can only work if you are known to the steward who checks the ticket, other wise its just a random name.

Also there are times when my son will come through to a match and he'll say get me a ticket and I'll meet you at the ground. Now I would have to go through the rigmarole of saying "can I have a paddock adult ticket it isn't for me" and then going through the rigmarole of trying to remember his address and postcode, or saying can I have a paddock ticket and getting him a ticket named Barbara!

Recording your postcode isn't just for updating you with offers etc, it'll be used as a tool for selling sponsorship etc. Say a company from Workington is approached for some from of sponsorship, the club can give them a break down of where fans come from and in what numbers. Recording things like this is common sense if the club want to develop commercially.

They don't need to take a full postcode. They can't send you 'offers' without taking a house number too so that arguments gone.
The marketing/sponsorship just needs the general area rather than individual streets. They at worst should just be taking the first part ie, CA1 but since the system is crap and slow moving queues full of annoyed patrons is a common occurrence, they should just stop faffing about and get the basics sorted first.

Went to watch my local non-league side Heaton Stannington in the FA cup two weeks back. Got to the game at 2.59 was in the ground for 3.00. Cracking game even though the standard wasn't great and £2.40 a pint at half time with beer served in a proper glass. No postcodes, long queues or farcical owners, much less hassle and a decent afternoon watching football.

As a Carlisle owner would say "go and watch them every week then if it was that good".

It's not about sending you offers. As @chesterviabothel suggests, it's so that they can show propective sponsors a map of where match day fans come from and demonstrate the audience for their adverts are relevant. The first part of the postal code isn't sufficient for the sort of analysis sponsors will want - it might cover all sorts of different property types and demographics. Asking for the postal code is a matter of seconds. The real issue with delays will be elsewhere.
