Lad at work won tickets to Sunderland against Fulham, so we went along. Dire 0-0 draw, one of the worst games I've seen. Absolutely nothing to get excited about as a neutral.

Lad at work has had season ticket for Sunderland for years, takes his sons, last year his loyalty started to faulter, sacked his season ticket off, actually stopped going from like February all together, think he went 1 match when Advocaat took over, he went opening home match other week, they got fucked again, he was raging said he's not going back.
Fed up to back teeth with watching shite. Just shows their is maybe worse teams to support than Carlisle!

I went to exactly the same game, went along with the bloke I was working for at the time who was a Sunderland fan.
Never been so bored in my life and I've hated both Sunderland and Fulham ever since

Leeds v Ipswich in mid-nineties. 0-0 bore draw. Mates GF was from down there and two other mates were going so I went along. Leeds were under Wilkinson so hoofball was the aim of the game. Brian Deane upfront with the first touch of an Elephant and Ipswich in 4-5-1 and Ian Marshall alone up top.

Absolute torture.

Speedway at brough park in Byker. In fairness it was a pre-season event and was 80p to get in but was a waste of an afternoon
Newcastle v Ventspils in the intertoto cup awful game and they weren't allowed to sell beer as it was a European game for some reason

The last day of Durham v Australia in 1993.

It's actually gone down in cricketing legend to a certain extent as it was Ian Botham's final match and he infamously bowled a ball with his meat and two veg out to David Boon.

However, my memory of the day is that it was cold and wet and most of the day was lost to rain. We were accompanying a party of primary school kids and a group of 7 year olds' attempts to get some autographs during the lengthy rain break were met with the middle finger from Merv Hughes.

Even though it was a tour match it was all a bit too self indulgent and half arsed from the players with not much thought for the spectators.

Went to see Sunderland twice last season. First time against Leeds in the FA cup, was pretty dire in general, was entertaining seeing Van Aanolt bombing up and down the wing and he scored a decent goal but that was about the only good thing. Sunderland were awful in the second half and Leeds weren't much better.

Second time against Leicester. Their last home match of the season. Win would've put them safe I think. Was good to see Danny Graham playing relatively well for them under the circumstances (the fans have warmed to him a lot after their initial "kill the geordie" reaction some time ago), Adam Johnson is a really good player to watch (shame he's allegedly a dirty f*cker), but generally speaking the match was awful. Conor Wickham is a terrible, terrible, terrible player. If Curle signed him on a free for £1,000 a week I still wouldn't want him anywhere near the pitch.
Last Edit: 24 Aug 2025 18:46 by loser. Reason: removed currently libelous statement re Johnson

Proof that if you put enough hype into something, even if its as boring as traffic, idiots will pay to watch.

Used to go and watch Workington Comets years ago - in the days of Lou Sansom, Steve Lawson, Taffy Owen, etc - loved it. Went back about ten years ago and took the missus. It had really changed - and not for the better. Processional "racing" where the first one to the first bend wins. Was really bored.

Worst sporting event has got to be cricket. It really is watching grass grow.

Probably a 20 20 Cricket match at OT between England and Oz. Rained for most of it, cost 40 quid and got nothing back on ticket price. Hard work at the bar. Nothing good about it basically.

At least you saw some of it. We went and it didnt even start. Was obvious when we left Workington there was no chance of play but the f**kers didnt call it off until the last minute. Couldnt even get back to watch Carlisle at Morecambe in the JPT but managed to tune in to hear us win on penalties.

Got offered a ticket to watch the egg chasers at Newcastle Falcons a few years ago.... Decided to give it a shot! Falcons were beat 3-0!

Probably the worst 80 minutes of my life watching a male orgy every 30 seconds whilst occasionally squeezing a ball out the back end which i'm led to believe is a ruck!

Half time and I was offered a pint... Why not I said when it came back it had ne head but did have what resembled semen which formed an odd crust... Aye a [censored] crust in a pint!

To top it off I went arse over tit on the way out down the stairs.... My misery was compounded when I landed on a chavs 13 yo son who if I recall was called Diesel or something equally masculine...

All in all it turned out to be the most gayest day out i've ever endured!

How come the same two teams always reach the final?
