£100k Mervyn Day paid for him and he was worse than useless!

Wasn't he the replacement for Stevie Hayward? Can't quite remember, some drop in qualities if he was.

he was Heywards replacement albeit one with the pace of Thirwell and the passing range of Beheral.

I can't remember having players of that name.

Big things were expected of Couzens and Bowman, they were part of a leeds youth team that beat the fabled 'class of 92' (Man u team with scholes, beck's et al).

At the time this seemed like a good signing.

At the time he did look a good signing on paper, one of them players you had heard of even before he was mentioned. I was at white heart lane when he scored and we went into half time 2-1 up! Great 45 minutes and was buzzing all through half time until the inevitable! Was a interesting listen, Hates Aspinall and Knighton, says Carlisle is a great club and still keeps a eye on us. Said Knighton had registered himself as a player and was planning to play in the Jimmy Glass game!!!

Both Couzens and, before him, Hayward, were supposed to be our main midfield lynchpins. For me though, they never quite measured up to the man whose departure they were both trying to fill, Simon Davey. He was one of my all-time CUFC favourites, and that goal against Shrewsbury at BP is one of the best I've ever seen us score.

Needless to say, I wanted to drive down the M6 and shove his nob end shirt up his Welsh arse when he signed for them.

Davey wasn't fit to lace Hayward's boots.

First season not convinced Hayward new how to tie a set of boots up!

Davey always impressed me as a player, he was probably the youngest Carlisle captain I can remember (I'm sure he was only 23 at the time), and was also one of the players - along with Darren and Deano - who were already at the club when Tashy Mick rolled into town, so very much earned his place in the successful team that followed. I always thought it was a real shame he did't get to lift the trophy at the end of his last season, and that we ended up with Reevesey fannying about with it instead.
