TOPIC: Gary Dicker

Good ball-player - agreed.
Calming influence when under the cosh - agreed.
Better suited to the holding midfielder role than Joyce - just about agreed.

But that is where the love-in stops for me sadly.
Can't understand why so many of our supporters have him down as League Two's answer to Yaya Toure? I like him and agree he should probably be starting, but Christ, he's on a pedestal to a huge section of our fanbase. Anyone who dare criticise him is down for a clueless, Curle-loving clown. Don't buy the "top pro forcing his way back in" cack either - he fell out with KC last year and if he could've grabbed himself a better deal elsewhere he wouldn't still be here.

Maybe it's just me like?!

I like Dicker, I think he's worth keeping. But yeah some of our fans would give him man of the match if he came on for 10 minutes and didn't touch the ball.

But he did touch the ball. And effectively.
In my opinion a calming, creative influence.

But he came on today and possibly made a major contribution to our winning the game.

in the game I watched we were perfectly capable of losing 2 goals in the last 5 minutes with Hery etc hardly managing to get it past the half way line. Its good to win - but to view it as other than a fluke ignores the problems that if not corrected pretty damn sharpish will lead to us conceding at least 2 most games. I think it must be fairly easy for opposing managers to get a scheme that invalidates the tippy tappy approach at the back while we have a least one cock up (Raynes today) per game.

Dicker has done better since he and Billie Bunter went moaning to the PFA. He has good vision and can pass the ball well. My concern is his lack of pace, he gets done for speed too often. Especially if we're playing with one centre half and one holding midfielder, we need someone more mobile than Dicker in there.

Dicker made at least two last ditch tackles on the edge of our area at times when Barnet appeared to be just walking the ball through the Defence.

He certainly helped calm play down, and like others had he not come on, I'd not have been surprised if they'd equalised and then who knows what.

Has to be a regular starter for me.

I said on the ratings thread id rather not have Dicker or Joyce. I honestly think were lacking a holding midfielder with a bit of pace who can tackle. Finding a good one who wants to play for Carlisle may be a different matter though.

Gary Dicker or Paul Thirlwell then folks, out of interest?

Yeah it was all a bit of a blur but some of the passages of play were fantastic.

No doubt someone will point out the number of sideways and backwards passes or the fact that most were under 10 yards or so. But that's the point, we kept possession and looked comfortable on the ball and made Liverpool work to get it back.

We are far better with dicker in the team, Joyce looks better with dicker besides him and we keep the ball better, also worth noting Bastien Hery should maybe be give the nod for a few matches.
