Is there anybody that thinks an EU army is a good idea?

And Nick Clegg may also want to forget this one -

Germany in charge of a Europe wide military force, great idea.

I don't feel strongly either way, but it does make sense in the context of the EU moving towards having a common defence policy.
I think there'd be less resistance to it than adoption of the Euro, for example, as the idea of a common defence policy within the EU has a lot of support.

UKIP will be rubbing their hands if this happens... It's like the EU are trying to influence us to vote to leave at a referendum. Germany should have no say in anything concerning armed forces, given their track record. The EU army is as flawed a concept as a single currency in my view... sounds good on paper, but how do you make it work practically?

We are surrounded in water and can look after ourselves. Just because Europe need us they can piss off.

It works for the UN, there is no UN army they simply draw on member states armies who are compensated for expenses. I think it is a very good idea. For large central items like nuclear weapons it would massively reduce the cost to Britain. And it would stop unilateral actions like Blair taking us into an illegal war in Iraq

What would happen if for instance the Argentinians invaded the Falklands again... would the French still be allowed to supply them with missiles again? Would they just go ahead and supply them anyway?

The EU is a completely out of date model and is currently preciding over the only continent on the planet which isn't experiencing economic growth. An EU Army would be another step backwards.

Having said that I'd be happy for the Germans to rule the world. Great women, great beer, going to the football is superb and-all-you-can-squirt knocking sheds for 99 euro with a free bar...

There would be another backlash against the system in Argentina for starters, lot of them ain't forgiven the regime for starting it in the first place or all the deaths they hid away prior to the Falklands.

Edited to say that Corbyn won't give away the Falklands. It forms the basis of our claim to mineral rights in the Antarctic which are worth billions. Just more Daily Telegraph nonsense. Jeremy Corbyn will cause your children to die of rickets, let 10 million Luxembourgers into the country to earn 50 grand a year each and he smells of rabbits. All true, it was in the Daily Mail

I can't see how it could actually work, I wouldn't be for it anyway. Even if they went ahead with it, it would be a number of years before it was all finalised, during that time there would be far to many other goings on that would stop it from happening

... but thinking about it, that is pretty much what happened with Yugoslavian wars anyway... so no change there.

The drive for an EU army is coming from the Baltic States which have been left defenceless after most of their young guys migrated to the UK and Germany. Introducing conscription just made it worse. It was Poland's conscription policy which encouraged the rush here in 2004 by the Polish builders. Fortunately the Poles dropped conscription before the country became totally depopulated of strong lads in their twenties.

An EU army is a ridiculous idea. I can just imagine the thoughts of those Spanish and Portuguese soldiers at the idea of being posted in winter to the Lithuanian border with Russia in response to troop movements as Putin plays his games. Even NATO is likely to crumble within the next few years as we abandon the Baltics to Putin.

It's all a shambles. Let's just exit the EU and let Merkel do what she wants.

Milosovic killed an estimated 200k while Bush and Blair have killed about 2m across the Middle East since the Iraq war started so when we talk genocidal dictators there are not many above Britain. Secondly when there are fragmented forces all arguing about who should take responsibility there will be leadership issues, if there is 1 army those issues disappear so practice shows the opposite is true
