They never do much.

Very little by the look of it. No header on their FB Page, no pinned Tweet's. Nothing much on Instagram.

A weak area we need to sharpen up on.

I already gave them a decent marketing idea, a slightly different take on the very effective "Your Country Needs YOU" propaganda posters. Something like Nigel or a players face photoshopped onto it saying your club needs you. Not sure if the media team will follow up on it.

We did the Kitchener type poster in the 03/04 season, I think it's been done another couple of times since.

To be honest, anyone who doesn't want to come to the first match of the season after nearly eighteen months away isn't really a fan of football. There will be fans who would love to come that can't of course but I can't see many folk being persuaded to go if they weren't fans anyway.

They have done a marketing article today but the time to do it is next week, not when there is still a friendly to play. Folk are very easily confused. At this time, when who knows what restrictions are going to be thrown at usw from one day/ week to the next, I would say any advertising needs to be done not before the week before.

Some good points Bumble. I hope we fully take advantage here as its a great opportunity. I see this as an opportunity to attract our 50-50 support base and new fans. I think todays theme is wonderful but you could have had the news and star lead this a few weeks ago. What could the players do to lead iniatives. What can the london branch do. What is our aim....8000 for example. How can we promote through SM and share this...

Bumble if we want to be a bigger club, we have to think bigger and use all resources. We have had a good summer of sport and this can also be an opportunity to attract new fans.

I fully agree that we need more fans, I'm just not sure the first game of the season is the time to go all out in an advertising campaign. Thinking back over the years I can't think of many first games of the season I have really enjoyed. They are often rather stuttering affairs with both teams testing their match fitness and still getting to know their teammates.

I think the match v Colchester will be more about fans feeling that they are back home, meeting old friends, and watching new players, some of which they will have followed on IFollow but never have seen.

Despite the progress, I think we'd be surprised in how many are still fearful regarding Covid, and this alone will stop many going anywhere near large crowds in confined areas.

However, it's fair to expect a good home crowd for the first game, weather permitting.

Saturday was spot on as you could choose to sit miles away from anyone of you wished to.

I think that the gate was just short of 1900 so this was possible, wouldn't be in a big crowd.

Apart from the noise the home fans bring to the game, lower league football like cinemas ideally need people crammed in there to make their big money, top of the table clash/cup game for football or a new blockbuster release at the cinema has them flying in - not sure when or if this will ever happen again, I hope it will.

The club have set aside a whole block of the Pioneer Stand for those who are still concerned and would rather sit socially distant - I'd imagine that's a lot more than most clubs at our level will do.

In terms of the marketing (and speaking as someone who works in a similar area), I'd agree that next week is the key week - very easy for it to get lost with the friendlies etc these last two weeks. Hopefully they'll be planning in to give it a good push once Halifax is out of the way.

What iniatives can the players come up. What can our sponsors come up with or our food catering groups. We have a wealth of knowledge and experience and we should fully use it.

It's not unusual, it's been done to death and means nothing to younger generations.

What have they got to lose by trying? I think even if they aren't sure, they should try it in addition to whatever other marketing they have and then see what the feedback on the posters is. If it's negative then they can say I told you so

The food is definitely high on my agenda. Fish and chips from the chippie van are not to be scoffed at. It would be rude not to sample the pizza, and let’s face it we’ve got to do some QC on these new pies, see if they’re all they’re cracked up to be!

No chance of that happening.

Yes, we really need to improve the footballing fare on offer.
Anyone occasional fan who is persuaded to come is likely to be very underwhelmed by the team at the moment and if the go to a game, they won't be rushing back to the next one.

A run of 3 decent results in the opening games will do more than any marketing campaign.

I'd like to see more input from CB & some key players in social media, border news, news and star asking fans to back the team and get down to the game.
