It also begs the question why do we need a dof when apparently non league teams can discover and sign better players without one?

What would Clibben’s Kidd’s and Holdsworth’s combined salaries be and how does 2/3rd of that (keeping one purse strings person) equate to some decent signings? Like a decent striker, centre half, and creative midfielder?

One thing watching the FA Cup First Round games is even non league teams have a player in midfield capable of controlling the game. Decent strikers bar say Dagenham but I believe theirs were out with injury and decent stoppers. In fact watching these games we would with the current squad struggle in the National League.

To be brutally honest most people looking at a 2 or 3million pg dangling in front of them would be keeping more than half an eye on money or any way to get away from it . Regardless of who is to blame it will definitely focus the mind .

I’d rather they ran the club well enough to be able to afford to spend well, as opposed to their model of spending money we haven’t got, shitting their pants, then having to go cap in hand to a someone else.

So which way will you stab them in the back then? They spent money, absolute madness, couldn't run a pie stand. Or brought Holdsworth in to prevent the haemorrhage of money, no ambition, just leeches. Why not use both?

Just imagine if Curle announced, I want to sign two L1 first team players , Premier League experience, L1 regulars on the go cheap because of money issues. Nixon won't let me. This board would have been orgasmic at the opportunity to slag the board off! Don`t know what DH does all day but what Manager/ Head Coach in his right mind would want the DOF constantly looking over his shoulder,
interfering and wanting to take coaching sessions.

Iv been listening to Luke Steele on under the couch pod cast ( a fantastic listen some great stories about been Man U no3 keeper)

He said players were been missed by DOF and agents He said he would far rather the manager rang him than a DOF He said most players would take a bit less money if they felt the manager wanted them !!!

Clubs may see value in a DoF position, but it's such an amorphous (ooh) role that it doesn't mean the same thing from one club to the other - a buffer between board and manager (dave), someone who sorts out transfers (bit of dave), someone who chooses targets (dave says he doesn't do this), someone who passes on a bit of football knowledge before buggering off (definitely not dave)

If clubs saw actual value in what Holdsworth was doing they'd be poaching him, not just opening up a position with the same vague title

Who would of thought that part of the role of a Head of Recruitment would be to "unearth some gems!!" Also talks about the role at Morecambe of this guy to turn free transfers into 7 figure sums, and time that he will also spend helping on the training pitch.

Meanwhile at CUFC, DH has stated that so far players brought in have all been the choice of the manager, and that his job is to sort out contracts. So what the hell does DH do the rest of the time?

Excellent question. All I see and hear him doing is blaming other folk for the failings on the football side of this club. He’s completely unaccountable, not to mention untouchable.

There's always some crap when it comes to the current owners and Holdsworth is another example, he may be PD's man but the idiots in charge went running to Day in the first place. Oh how i miss when they didn't own the club
