On the plus side, Silverwood is an English coach, has a good relationship with the players and has had success as bowling coach and at county level with Essex.
On the other hand, it sounds almost as if he was 3rd choice after Alec Stewart withdrew his application and Gary Kirsten got cold feet over the travel commitments (and also apparently gave a boring presentation at interview.)
Personally, I would have preferred someone from outside the current set up as I think Root & co are complacent and get too defensive over justified criticism of our Test match batting.
India series. Very excited about this starting this week and just how good is it that it's on Channel 4?
Can't remember the last time a test series was live on regular telly Listening to TMS on the radio has been one of the things that's helped keep me sane during recent times.
Talksport has the radio rights.to the India games..its.just not the same as TMS...the recent middle of the night commentaries from their own bedrooms, attics, sheds and studios was superbly done and put together...a right laugh along the way,
Thought I'd take the plunge and listen to the Talk Sport radio commentary.
Maybe it's an age thing but I find it unbearable. It's like listening to football commentary on the cricket which, well, is just not cricket.
There's barely a moment of silence. I know change is supposed to be a good thing, different voices and all that kind of thing but I have to turn it off after 5 minutes.
Give me cakes and dear old things any day.
Had it on myself this morning after waking at 5am....it just didnt have that same feel at all compared to TMS....the crack and entertainment just wasnt there..all a bit flat really so its a tough listen..
Having said after getting up it was nice to see the test match back on channel 4 tv
In all the thousands upon thousands of overs Jimmy Anderson has bowled in his career, he may have never bowled a better one than the one served up at around 0500 this morning.
A couple of balls to blow the cobwebs off and first Gill's and then Rahane's off poles taken out of the ground with Rahane incredibly lucky to survive an LBW shout that was crashing into middle the ball before. All this at 38.
