Yep, you're right. It makes the result even worse.

He thinks he's doing a brilliant job and "couldn't possibly do anything better".

Today's defeat was all the referee's fault, nothing to do with him or his oh so fantastic "preparation".

He's barely capable of stringing a sentence together and comes across like a first grade amateur.

The defence looked shocking in the pre season games so I'm not surprised we conceded a few. It seems even at this early stage a lot of the players aren't good enough so they need to take a lot of the blame, but Beech does also as he signed them and of course so does Holdsworth!

Progression won't happen until we have new owners but that's sadly just a dream

That's a better record than us - you'd have to make them favourites on Saturday (especially as we bent over obligingly and moved the kick off forward for them)

I’m not sure what Taylor charters has done but looked decent but now can’t get minutes and not even in the team today, he’s one local who should be playing. ( not sure if injured but got no minutes in friendlies)

Clearly he’s out of his depth and was frustrated when holdsworth appointed an assistant/academy manager as the Carlisle United manager.

Hoofball from the back, aimless punts into the box at every opportunity, fluster, bluster and utter garbage. Add to that, kamikaze play in midfield to gift them a goal and some truly abysmal finishing and we got what we deserved today.

Chasing the game, what do you do? Bring a third central defender on. It's tactical suicide.

Beech would make a decent scout or possibly a good coach but he's not a manager in a million years. Giving him control of a football team is like giving a chimp a scalpel and asking it to do brain surgery.

It's not too late to save our season and appoint an experienced manager who knows what they're doing. We need to act decisively.

I’m sad to say I agree, poor decisions before the game and during the game from Beech it’s either he goes or we get an experienced assistant to help him. We play some of the worst football I’ve seen since probably the start of the last season of Curles era.

Listen to him and how deluded he sounds, happy with Mellish! Get him gone, publicly slates Mike Jones and Sagaf who are twice the players Mellish is. Get him out!

I want Beech to do well but he's starting to come across extremely stubborn with his interviews and team selection. Post match interview this evening was woeful, mentioned 'stats' within about 5 seconds and proceeded to moan about the lack of balls around the pitch. No issues with Mellish's performance and apparently we created enough chances? Starting to get old already and we're only 5 games in..

If you look at the numbers this season:
- 5 games
- 4 defeats
- 1 win
- 10 conceded (2 goals p/g)
- 3 scored (0.6 goals p.g)

You can argue 2 of those games are in the cup, and also that it's a new squad, however it doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

We've got a very easy start to the season in terms of league fixtures, if we're not in a half decent position after 10 games we could be in for a long year.

Presley was less deluded. I don’t care what Mellish does in training he can do all he wants in there. One of my biggest football hates is mangers who have a soft spot for a poor player. Presley was the same with slater but not to the extent Beech is with Mellish.

I don’t know, but lose to Barrow next week would probably be the lowest point since we went out of the league. Being the shit of cumbria would turn a lot of fans against Beech.

Carlisle did enough to win today and should have won.
The problem isn't Chris Beech and the problem isn't Jon Mellish. How on earth is any manager going to do well if each season he has to assemble a brand new team?
What's the answer? Sack Beech and get another coach in and then we go through the whole mess again next pre-season. The Pressley pre-season must have been the worst in the club's history. A handful of players and youth games called off to make up the numbers.
Beech isn't perfect but who will be in Div 4? I agree that playing Mellish in a MF 3 isn't working but all managers have their stubborness and the Devitt thing is just crackers.
Mellish in a 4 man MF would do better, I think, where there's no need for him to be creative, just use his energy to break up play. Aside from the dreadful pass I thought he actually played OK today.
You could put Alex Ferguson in charge of Carlisle and each year ask him to assemble a whole new squad and it would be tough.
And going back to Jon Mellish, he's the longest serving player at the club. How has that come to pass?
How on earth is the club expected to do well when you watch a game and don't recognise half of the players at the start of each season?

I've never liked managers who make their team choice purely on training pitch performance and not give them a chance in a proper competitive game. Beech showed poor judgment letting Sagaf go, before Beech came he was probably our best midfielder.

I agree with NCF-chopping and changing a group of personnel in any environment is a recipe for disjointed performances.

Sadly that is modern day football in the lower leagues.

I would be voting for cancelling the season and doing something else-best case scenario for most chairmen

Our board would give him a 10 year contract if he could guarentee keeping us a mid table league 2 team.

I appreciate what Newcarlislefan is saying about continuity and it's a very good point.

However, the logic only stacks up behind this if your manager is not incompetent.

Keeping a manager who is clearly and obviously out his depth just for the sake of continuity is not going to end well for anyone. If we were improving then maybe it would make sense but our results are terrible and the football we're playing is genuinely atrocious.

It's also not true all managers are stubborn. Successful managers learn quickly from their mistakes, they don't keep on making the same mistakes every week. Beech's first step should be admit to getting things wrong and explaining to the fans how he's going put things right - not having a chuckle and a smile in his post-match and blaming the defeat on the referee and the length of time it took the opposition to take goal kicks.

I'm not sure I'd say he's out of his depth PP but it is his first managerial job so it is a steep learning curve and like all managers he makes mistakes.
Ferguson made a pigs ear of it for a good few years and nearly got sacked. Wenger refused to buy anyone who wasn't a tricky inside forward. George Graham bought Colin Pates and a million other centre halves. Alf Ramsey picked a way past his best Bobby Moore. Bob Paisley signing Frank McGarvey. They all do it. The very best. The best all buy the wrong players and play players who perhaps aren't working and all needed time to develop things - years in some cases. And they are all stubborn!
Beech, like Pressley with Webster and Curle with Hope, is very prickly now about Mellish and I get it. It's an ego thing and a pride thing.
Mellish is young and doesn't know the position but I agree that in a MF 3 it's not working at all. 4 in there and maybe say to him you stop them playing.
It's not been great but it's such a new side with new players. Beech did alright last year, I thought. Steadied the ship and looked like he was having us turn a corner.
It was poor against Cambridge, OK against Southend and OK today.
The post match stuff is what all managers come out with. He's frustrated, angry and feels like the world's against him and I get that.
But it's been 3 league games though.
Perhaps it's just an age thing but i always thought managers needed a year or 2 to get things how they want.
I just can't see the sense in ripping it up and starting again. What do you replace it with? It's his first job. Give him the time to develop himself and the team.

To answer the original question, each defeat suggests that Beech's tenure of the manager's job will be short lived.

One win in five is a terrible start to the season. As has already been mentioned, defeat against Barrow would be a disaster.

However as I've posted before, I don't think it's a coincidence that the quality of player recruitment has declined since the Director of Football was recruited.

The difference Newcarlislefan, is Ferguson had won twelve trophies before arriving and rebuilding at Old Trafford. Wenger won four trophies before arriving at Arsenal and didn't struggle early on his tenure at all. George Graham had been successful at Millwall and already won a league title with Arsenal before signing Pates. Ramsey was a World Cup winner and Moore his World Cup winning captain. Paisley had won three league titles and two European Cups before gambling on McGarvey. All Beech has achieved is to ride Keith Hill's coat tails as an assistant managerial lacky, he's been in charge of our club for 27 games (over ten months and two transfer windows) and has only won 7 of them. Overall as a first team manager his win percentage is 21%, Steven Pressley's career win ratio as a manager is 36% and as our manager 34%.

When you've had success as a manager you buy yourself a little slack to make a couple of screw ups and starting from a position of strength as a manager allows you this. Every manager drops the odd clanger, you're right - we're all human. McGarvey never played for Liverpool and Pates played less for Arsenal in three years than Mellish has already played for us. The managers you mention realised their mistake and didn't persist with it, with the exception of Ramsey who ultimately lost his job, that's why they were good managers and it's why Beech is not.

Today's performance was by no stretch of the imagination "OK". We gave away a shockingly poor goal and were not good enough to score ourselves (against a very poor team who Pressley's team managed to comfortably beat last season).

And I commend you for defending Mellish. You could play six in midfield to try and accommodate his ineptitude but you'd still be trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. You'd also be changing his role from the attacking / creative role Beech has him playing in midfield to a defensive role which again is not his position. Beech thinks he can turn him into David Platt, you think you can turn him into Chris Billy - both plans are equally misguided. He's a central defender, he should play in central defence or not at all.

Replacing a manager need not be "ripping it up". An experienced boss would likely keep hold of his better players and supplement the pack to improve the side in core areas. The key is picking someone who really knows what they're doing...

Come on let’s at least give him a chance. Bloody Carlisle fans, always been so negative.
