It's a good record that London Grammar one. Do you do the music at the ground?
Not any more - I retired at the end of last season.
Must have been a great job. Did you get free reign to play what you wanted? Big Black, Bitch Magnet, The Jesus Lizard etc

Wow! Can't believe I've come across someone else who likes The Church, and on the CUFC forum no less... Superb band, been a fan for many years. Which would you say was your favourite album of theirs Seep?

Propaganda played a televised gig in Carlisle in 1985. Hard to believe but I was there so it definitely happened! You can find it on YouTube by searching for propaganda bliss. I’m not a big fan of dance music but they were great.

Priest = Aura is my favourite with Heyday, Starfish, Magician Among The Spirits and Hologram of Baal all up there. They’ve never made a bad album and they’ve made nearly 30. They’ve lost a bit of their sparkle since Marty Willson-Piper left but I think they’re still the best band on earth, or very nearly.

Cheers for that - will try and find that.
Played A Secret Wish to my daugher but she thought it was rubbish so am trying her on Ladyhawke. Worth a listen if any of you have 10 mins to spare. sort of a Kim Wilde meets Polly Harvey.

Yep, Priest=Aura definitely my favourite, closely followed by Starfish, Sometime Anywhere and Gold Afternoon Fix, although I like all of them up to After Everything Now This to be honest, beyond which I lost interest a bit. Definitely miss MWP, particularly like All About Eve's stuff during his time with them as well.

I enjoy these threads as it gives me a chance to see what folk are really listening to - it's how I got into London Grammar. So, off to YouTube I went and tried Priest=Aura. Think I prefer The Mission - God's Own Medicine - suspect that album influenced The Church.

Take for example their chart run downs, they had the dance chart, normal chart, rock chart and more importantly the indie rundown where you would get a snippet of some of the most weird and wonderful music imaginable to me at the time, The Smiths, The Wedding Present, The Mission, HMHB, The House Of Love, Black etc etc.
That stark Black video shot in black and white 'Wonderful Life' stood out a mile.
I wrote in to them at the time requesting a 'video vault' section and what I wanted to hear and they actually did what I requested, I was well happy

Couldn't agree more Munchy - it was on The Chart Show that I first saw the video for Serpent's Kiss by The Mission which led them to be one of my favorite bands over the subsequent 30-odd years. As you say, you saw/heard bands on there that you would never see on TOTP, plus you didn't have to put up with presenters that were pillocks/paedos!

Scotty - it's cool that you're broad minded enough to check out other people's tastes. Interesting that you should bring up The Mission, they're one of my favourite bands, certainly seen them live more than anyone else - 14 times at last count! Don't see the influence though - The Church had been going for a long time before The Mish kicked off; the first couple of Church albums were standard indie fare but they got progressively more esoteric as time went on. Priest=Aura is quite a dense album if you are new to them though - I would recommend Starfish as an entry level album - one of my favourite albums of all time and includes Under the Milky Way which is a mainstay of any Goth/New Wave compliation!
Seep - if you haven't already I would recommend you check out Dead Guitars, a Wayne Hussey endorsed band who remind of The Church quite a bit.

Great choice, absolutely superb album. I got the new one for Christmas but I haven't really had the time to listen to it enough yet.

Said he played it before games to get him in the mood and gee himself up.

Yes what a good choice - It's a lovely record. I love this song. Has a kind of American Waterboys feel to it. Saw them at Brixton touring this.
The guy from War on Drugs has been having a very public row with Father John Misty over the past year or so which is a bit sad as both have produced some great music. His, I love You Honey Bear is another excellent record. Check this out
