Or you can look at it the other way in that nearly 50% of the PL clubs academies are refusing to take part.

And as they say, every picture tells a story and its pretty clear what story the picture they've used on there article shows. Thousands of empty seats everywhere you look.

Are they refusing or have the EFL asked the ones who got relegated but have previously supported it? Looks like there’s only Boro there who haven’t been in Prem either last season or this season.

Top 16 invited then worked their way down the list of clubs with cat 1 academies in the order they finished in their leagues until they had 16 acceptances ie when they got to Middleboro

I believe Bournemouth and Burnley,s academies weren't Cat 1 but I believe Burnley is now with the completion of the new Barnfield complex

Seems to me that all these academy sides do is feed the loan market.
Very few make the first team squad.

It's an absolute shower that they continue to ignore the fans with regard to this tournament. I won't be attending any games, including any potential final, this season, or any other season that B teams are in the tournament. It's just wrong.

3 - 5 games against tier 4 teams is not going to significantly help any player development. If they want their players to gain experience then send them out on loan... They will experience real league games and probably get way more than 5 games. We will have a few of them at Brunton Park please.

This whole "experiment" is a nonsense. Simply a thinly disguised attempt to shoehorn B teams into the league structure in future. If lower tier teams or their fans support this sham then they are very naive about the ultimate intentions.

To be fair if they wanted to show horn them in they’d try to do it anyway regardless of this daft decision. In fact I’d say if it was part of a master plan them Man Utd and Liverpool would definitely be in it.

I do not recognise the Coventry win last season in the competition and will fail to see it as anything other than a reserve run out till they kick out the unwelcomed teams.

Nice little competition this one, or it was till they messed with it.

Until the likes of Harvey are removed from the FL The PL will have an ally at worst and a puppet at best on their payroll which means they could well get whatever they want in the long term.

Exactly Barry which is why i dont think them being in this competition will have any bearing on B teams getting in the league structure. They still shouldnt be in it though.

Well it seems they've given up on trying to convince the fans and are concentrating their efforts on the clubs instead they've certainly done a job on Andy Holt despite Accy [ and us ] picking up the magnificent sum of 50k from it last year [ Accy are still waiting to find out whether they.ll get the 20k compensation money they asked for ]

I.ve shown him a pretty detailed proposal that shows how all clubs would generate a minimum 100k with no PL money and give him his due hes asked the FL why it wouldn't work and whether the figures add up and hes promised to let me know when they get back to him. But i have my doubts they.ll give him the figures because I cant see how they can hide the near million pounds from the final receipts that simply disappears into thin air.

Just another farcical thing about this competition with the rossers influencing the draw!

Will the invited team be for Tajikistan, Comoros Islands or Guam. I wouldn't be surprised with Harvey. We might have to ask the UN or the local police force if we can play them too.

The away game will be Sunderland because we played Morecambe away last season. According to the article, 'if there is a situation where two teams meet in the Group Stages for a second successive season, then the club who was at home in 2017/18 will play away in 2018/19'.

Talk about making the rules up as they go along. It is almost like organising a set of pre season friendlies to suit the club's and a run around for the kids.
I attended an inter schools primary tournament the other day. That had more riding on it that the Cheque and Trade trophy.

Maybe not Newcastle U21 but could be Middlesbrough U21.
Imagine that would go down well with the Sunderland fans.

A shambles of a competition and a thinly veiled attempt to normalize B teams in lower league competition, before shoehorning them into the league structure. I live in the North East but won't be going to Sunderland... in fact I wouldn't walk to the end of my street to watch any game in a tournament that includes B teams. I hope we bomb out in the group stages... We are too good for this pile of shite competition.

The EFL run two cup competitions and the Premier League have now gate crashed both of them.

Starting to think that the Premier League U21 teams should be allowed to continue to play in the Checkatrade Trophy but that the League Cup should only be for EFL clubs.
After all the Premier League treat it as a Mickey Mouse competition anyway, so bomb them off..

I'd say:

OK you want to play your academy sides in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Under one condition, and that is you no longer play in the EFL League cup.

Big problem with that is Harvey, who is right up the Premier League arses..
