McCarron signing Pro deal today

He would be foolish to sign for any team that are going to stick him in an U23 team, from his point of view and Utds point of view he needs at least one more season as part of the first team, way to many jump ship to early and end up disappearing. And the big up would be that Utd could get a much bigger fee they need to be much more demanding about at what point they sell promising players and not just sell to the first four figure offer.

Not sure he would be foolish to leave,double treble quadruple wages better coaches and facilities and better player group to learn from and possibly loaned out when Leeds or whoever feel the need for that.
On top of that a nice little signing on fee,some might say if he didn't go he lacked ambition,from our point of view he's had one fairly lengthy injury already if he gets another will he be worth as much

Signing for Leeds then coming back on loan means the best of both worlds doesn't it? Gets the cash and the games. Leeds will still take him down their regularly for training

IF a championship club come in and offer him a big wage rise he’d be mad not to go. All this he should stay here for first team football is a load of bollocks. Whether the club should accept the first offer is another matter though.

My thoughts on this as well.
If he backs himself, him and the club will be in a much stronger position in a years time.
Just cannot see any loan back if it is Leeds he goes to. Those they send out on loan are mainly those who have come through the academy to get experience (or if they want shot of them).

If the rumours are right he'd be daft not to go. He may never get the chance again.

Would I be right in thinking he’s prob on less than £500 a week at Carlisle? Of there’s more than 1 club want him they aren’t gonna offer him peanuts. He’d be mad not to take his chance if he gets it. He could get a career ending injury first friendly he plays.

We would have to drastically increase his wages for him to stay, which we can't afford to do.
Our best bet is to pick up all these players who reach 23 and are not wanted by these clubs anymore.

Then, he can leave for nowt on July 1st 2020, as far as I can tell.

Collins was in our favour but it still didn’t stop him kicking off for a better deal.

I’d keep him if the offer is 250k, that’s nothing in modern day football. He wouldn’t leave for nothing next year either as long as we offered him the same or improved terms to what he’s on now. Would have to agree compo or it would go to a tribunal because of his age

If we got a good offer with sell on for McCarron or Branthwaite say £500 K for both let’s be honest a 16 year old and a 18 year old isn’t going to get us promotion this season but if we could use the money to get 5 players in on 2 k per week we might have half a chance

The lad made four starts for us last season and we're demanding x amount of pounds him. How have these clubs decided he's worth all that money if we didn't deem him good enough to play more games?

I think the reason he didn't play more games was because of an injury. I agree with the general point you are making however.

Whoever buys him are buying potential, they aren't buying a player for now. He'll probably spend the next couple of years playing under 23s and checkatrade football.

Really sad to hear this news.
Would have been great to see him over the coming season and how his game would develop.
Great watching exciting, talented kids learning their trade and particularly a local one.
Tommy Wright's comment at the Forum really stood out for me when he said that he and Sheridan went over to look at the young lads playing.
I can't remember the exact words but is was long the lines of, "Christ, this lads's good - why did nobody tell us about him!"
So credit to Wright and Sheridan for recognising his ability and getting him a long contract quickly.
Real shame not to be able to see him running at fullbacks at BP this season.
Can't blame him for going. I just hope he can still play football at a decent level rather than just play development league stuff which doesn't really seem to be doing a lot of younger players too many favours.
Look at the difference we saw in Callum over a few months. Arrived a boy and left a man.

Swizz - do you really see McCarron as a replacement for a £10M player. He has only played three times, and been hooked in at least one of them.
Think the clue is in Pressley's quote about getting one of their (Thomas) and swimming in money (premiership).

Leeds have just sold Clarke to Spurs as someone who would not have been a starter at Leeds (at least first off).

This seems to be where football’s at these days, McCarron has barely played for Carlisle yet he’s commanding a decent fee, Clarke leaving Leeds for a reported £10m after just 4 league starts, Wan-Bissaka going for £50m-£60m after 1 good season in professional football (followed by a really poor euro u21 Champs). You don’t have to do much in football these days to get a good move.

It's a really weird balance that clubs have to find.

If selling clubs get a decent offer for a player with potential they will have either sold too early for too little, or sold at the peak of their potential where they're most attractive to other clubs. If we kept McCarron this season and he got a really bad injury we could have passed up on the chance at a few hundred grand in the coffers.

Buying clubs are willing to take the risk of getting players at the height of their potential because fees for the top players in the world are no astronomical, and they could end up being colossal wastes of money. I bet Real Madrid and Barcelona are thoroughly regretting the transfer fees paid for Bale and Coutinho respectively.

If we were a Championship side and McCarron had shined it certainly would have been a lot higher fee.

Then again lots of lower league clubs do better than us in the transfer market in selling players, we just seem to rub our hands together at the first offer and take their hand off.

Be something like 100k. 50k now, 50k in a year, with a 20% sell on.

If he really backs himself he'll want to move and be playing for Leeds in a year.

So you get offered a chance to quadruple your wages and a signing on fee, work in a better environment with better conditions and facilities with better coaches and more talented teamates all in an industry where your one bad tackle away from your career being jepordised

I got talking to an ex-pro once who was sold as a young lad.

He said the chairman called him in, told him such and such a club had made an offer, it had been accepted and he was to go down and sign the contract. Basically left the next day.

Things might have changed a bit but the players at that point had very little say. If the club wanted to sell, they had to go.

Is Holdsworth that stupid that he is going for a player that he should know would command a fee in compensation, surely his job is to research these things and in the past you just used to sign players in these circumstances and the fee is set by a tribunal.

Surely you don’t expect to be ‘in the loop’ with regards transfer/contract negotiations at any football club Walter? I’m not sure any club make these dealings public.

With regards Gateshead, I’m not entirely sure what the situation is with contracts. All the players contracts, bar one, were allowed to run down at the end of last season and the club looked as though they were folding. They’ve since been taken over so not sure where that leaves the players, I’m presuming they would have to have offered new contracts for them to be able to be eligible for compensation?
