McCarron signing Pro deal today

Im sure Knighton paid £1 million to buy the club - wonder what happened with that money?

It’s hard to get more than £1.5 million when you haven’t got anyone worth £1.5 million. Cant see us getting anywhere near that for McCarron but hope we get a good sell on fee just in case.

Just had a look at record transfers from league 2 and if this is right there maybe aren’t as many £2 million transfers as some of us think.

First of all let me say I have not seen him play, but the fact is he has not broken into the first team on a regular basis, so all this talk of sky high transfers is a bit far fetched. I still think this is far more about DH trying to generate dosh.
Personally, if he is any good, it would make far more sense for him and the club for him to stay here and become a regular. In 6 or 12 months time, if he does break in and scores a few goals, he will be worth way more than he is now.
Why would you want to leave first team football for another teams u-19 or u-23 team when you can be playing in Div 2?

Money. If Leeds sign him for 200 grand he'll expect a minimum of a couple of grand a week, probably 5 times what he is on now. Then he can go out on loan.

As decent a player as Tom Parkes is, if we'd pulled in £5m in transfer fees over the last few years I'd be wanting to be investing more back into the team than players like him.

It's better than it was but make that one and half new stands considering one of them only runs to just over the halfway line.

I think he must mean the Lisa Stansfield stand. The silent ones in talks with them about putting it on rails and making it the worlds first driverless stand.

That new stand is well short though not quite noticeable in that photo.

Clibbens publicly claimed that all the Wyke money was spent on Proctor, what a load of rubbish as who would spend an entire transfer kitty on loaning a player for six months.

If his boast was true then it was him and not Curle who wasted the money and Holdsworth should be stamping on his bollocks, I still don't believe the original claim however as I reckon it was just bluster.

We should turn down offers and play hard ball as said if he becomes a regular he will be worth a lot more. £250.000 ain't a lot in the game nowadays,

Exactly......people seem to forget that the board backed Curle to the hilt, even though a lot of things ain't right with our board you cant knock em for not backing Curle, Curle failed to deliver....full stop!!!!

Hope I am missing something if he is signing for Leeds, but not exactly inspiring if he could not become a regular in the team last year. Do I not recall him flopping when he got a start?

I was more on about the mystery of the Wyke money, Clibbens and disappearing cash rather than the post being about Keith Curle Bry….

Carlisle White, as i told your lad when i gave him the info... With proper training, facilities etc, he will be an excellent signing. I've watched him from a very young age, played in the same team as my boy. Was head and shoulders the best player in the league, never mind our team. Was greedy, but ran rings around every team we played. He changed his game at CUFC, Undoubtedly with better coaching etc, could become a very good player. Told your lad, he's prob not ready for ch'ship, hence the loan back thing.

Don't disagree with this point of view however when your potless that money plus chance of further sell ons ect will be tempting

I sincerely hope the strategy of club will be to try and bring some young players either from academy or picked up from other clubs through.We have been woeful at this for quite some time

Given the financial position the club’s currently in I’d take the £250k and make sure we negotiated decent sell-on and appearance clauses.

To be honest we don’t even know if he’s good enough to succeed in the professional game. He’s only made 3 league starts (one of those he was hooked at half-time) plus 13 sub appearances (8 of those were 10 mins or less), he’s never played a full first-team game and his combined pitch time in the league doesn’t even equate to 4 games. The couple of times I’ve seen him he looked quite promising but very raw.

Quarter of a million pounds with potentially more to come for an unproven and largely untested young lad is good business in my eyes.

Whether it’s £250k or £1m does anyone seriously think this would find its way into the cash flow?No chance-it’s heading towards debt and PG reduction.Thats the problem with debt in balance sheets-it’s got first call on surplus cash.

EWM should be asked to convert all their loan into equity-but of course it won’t happen

We've only had 2 million pound players haven't we? Garner & Matt Jansen (and no-one really knows what he went for cos knighton pocketed it)

Find it hard to believe we'll get 250k for an unproven player when our history proves we're quite happy to let our star players bugger off for that kind of money. I'd expect more of a cosgrove / paddy madden value, and be pleasantly surprised if it's otherwise.

Yes unproven only played by Shridan when forced as nobody else..and then got injured.

At 18 though Leeds would be a great move

The list hasn’t got Ampadu on it either, sure it was £1.5m rising to £2.5m to Chelsea.

The difference with 3 of the 4 Exeter players was they were more experienced and proven that McCarron, playing about 250 games between them and picking up personal awards - Grimes was in the league 2 team of the year before he left and Watkins was the entire football league’s young player of the year.

Perhaps only Jordan Storey was compatible with McCarron.

John Sheridan's legacy gets better and better.

He was only here six months and signs us a player worth some cash, well done.

Cheers BB. One of the reasons I said it did not stack up to me is why would Leeds loan him back. No disprespect to the Carlisle coaches, but if it's Bielsa's coaching team (the u-23s play the same style, and the coach is being groomed as the next manager when Bielsa goes) or stay with whoever is coach now (is it Skelton?) it is a bit of a no brainer.

Leeds have signed a few for the £250 - 350K level quoted, one from York, Forest Green and Morecambe. All have played one or two games in the first team after a year or two, but all had made more first team progress than McCarron has.
The other thing on McCarron is I would imagine he will split between the u-19s and u-23s to start with. Most of the u-23s are close to the first team.
On the Exter thing, were they all not first teamers.

Is the argument with the Checkatrade not that young players gain more from playing 4th division standard competitive football than playing meaningless reserve games? Maybe that element of the deal would mean he would be better with us?
