Pressley, 45, takes post on a half-season deal, with an option for the club to extend at the end of the current campaign.

That’s possibly our shortest ever deal?!

So if he does well then he can go elsewhere in the summer, as has been the case with these short-term loan deals, and if he does badly then we'll miss out on a realistic promotion push and possibly have no manager again. I'm not sure how the length of the deal is a good thing in any way. If the board truly do believe he's the right man for the job then they wouldn't need to cover themselves...

If he does well we extend his deal, if he doesn't we don't have to pay to get rid of him.

No problem there.

Is it not the "international clearance" that's always been a hinderance. Most Scots we've had we've signed from English clubs. But on paper yes, there should be talent up North to suit us.

Good luck to the guy he’ll need it dealing with our Bod. Here’s hoping he has some useful contacts to get the players in we badly need, probably a good thing he saw a less than great performance on sat. Bonus he didn’t say listen once in his interview lol.

I’m just looking forward to the Elvis puns in every form of media...

Decent appointment; it could have been a lot better/worse so we’ll have to get behind him and give the bloke a chance but we all know that he’ll probably get judged on promotion if we get some good deals over the line this transfer window. The length of his contract is smart, too - no rash decisions.

He spoke very well in his first interview (makes a change) which probably indicates how hungry he is for success with a club.

Also, he should have good contacts above the boarder which we rarely utilise. It’s a much different job compared to his past ones.

Keep the faith.

Here's what Sky Blues have said about Pressley being back in management:

Neil@BryterMoon said: "Best of luck, always enjoyed him as a manager. Tons of passion, and a great ability to spot talent."

Liam Cook said: "Truly delighted for Steven Pressley today. A true gentleman and a cracking bloke. Carlisle, you've got a proper gem there. Look after him."

Matty Roper said: "Wish him all the best at Carlisle. Watched some of the best football Cov have played under him despite being in one of the most difficult periods the club has had. Fully respect him."

Conor West said: "A great manager at the wrong time for us, showed nothing but passion and love towards our club. I hope he does well at Carlisle. Best of luck Elvis."

Anthony Hornsby said: "Personally, I liked him as a manager. He had an ok squad spearheaded by Wilson and Clarke, got the best out of the likes of Baker and had to blood a lot of youngsters which I felt he did well. He started the young players / academy prominence movement at CCFC for me."

Best of luck to Steve. Lower league manager who has been around the block a few times. No Chris Wilder but solid enough. He has made his reputation at clubs with tight finances so presumably he has persuaded the Board he can keep us where we are without any great spend. Its usual at these interviews now to highlight weaknesses in the team, say what needs to be done to correct that and recommend players to fulfil the role so I'm guessing we'll see 2 or 3 coming in, though frees or loans. A fairly clear statement from the club though, no money.

At least it's not Lee Clark

Any new manager deserves a chance to prove themselves.

The worse thing anyone could say about him is that they find him uninspiring.

Good luck to him and as said - at least it isn't Lee Clark.

Haha - I was typing my last reply when you posted :)

I just wasn't overly keen on Hopkin at the time but as I previously posted I would have been more than happy with TW getting the job.

A splattering of talented Scottish footballers would not be a bad thing but don't forget when we decided to tap into the talented Irish market and we ended up with one of our worst sides ever bar Murphy.

And as I said previously, I am half Scottish so don't hate them but am realistic as I have seen what their top flight football is like and their international side - any hidden gems are right off to Celtic or Rangers.

One of their top clubs Aberdeen took a striker from us that few rated.

His interviews are certainly more engaging and cheery than JS's. Nice for him to say words like 'we' and 'us' when talking about Carlisle. I noticed straight away Sheridan used to say 'you' and 'they'.

I'm happy with this appointment hopefully can continue the excellent work started by Sheridan and love the fact he has a reputation as spotting talent and bringing youngsters through something we should have been prioritising years ago.

He didn't have any choice, it was already said that if a new manager came in he would have to work with who is already here.

Anyhow - you are hardly going to expect a manager to make wholesale changes over his massive six month contract.

I wonder if EWM are paying his wages and I don't really like this six months to a year contract for everyone it is just plain silly.

Look at it in another way, if EWM are hacked off at the wage structure and mistakes made in the past then look no further than Nixon, he wasted far more money than Curle ever seen with his ridiculous decision making over managers and his verbal agreements - few wanted an extended contract for Abbott and he got at two year one, few wanted Kavanagh and they appointed him, we were paying three managers at once on high wages.

And to add more insult Nixon cannot be arsed to do his job anymore dealing with contracts so needed to employ Clibbens, he was deemed not good enough to deal with contracts so they also employ Holdsworth to do said job.

Because of Nixon we once had to pay three managers at the same time and now we pay three people to do the job that he should be doing on his own, you couldn't make it up.

We need new players and we employ that shower, oh dear.

I am pleased about this appointment, it ticks a lot of boxes to me.
I didn’t really feel the appointment of Sheridan as though he had a decent track record, I felt it was obvious from the start that he wouldn’t be around for too long.
Pressley is character who any of us would struggle to dislike. A proper football man, who has played at a high level and knows our patch.
I reckon fans will warm to him and he will see what a good club Carlisle is ,or at least potentially is, to be involved with.
Welcome Steven.
