Ha ha if you keep that up it drop off quite quickly I shed nearly 3 stone in two years but been on the creep up since Christmas
Need to cut down on beer and sugary shit.
I'd imagine Dodd was busy yesterday and Loughrigg today too both lovely walks though been some weekend weather wise too.

Loughrigg today was like walking through the middle of Carlisle it was that busy. Bit steep coming down on Grasmere side with folks going up.

Eagle Crag from Stonethwaite Borrowdale a couple of weeks ago without doubt the trickiest Fell I've done (due to a poor bit of navigation :lol wet slippery rock, steep Scrambling no defined path.
Real buzz once up there though well worth it.
Would imagine it to be a death trap decending in fog.
Great spot for a chill out too. B)

Done a few walks lately, Caldbeck Common, Geltsdale, Mungrizedale, nice wide tracks, gentle climbs, can fairly knock the miles in.

Went out on a fine day, rain and mist came in, stuck on Pinnacle Ridge on st sunday crag, am not religious, but i prayed, wished we had rope and pitons :S weather cleared and we slithered doon like crabs :lol: on wet slippery smooth rock. Hammered a pint or two in hikers bar lol

We were in rio, the mrs voted for some crap act on BGT from the christ the redeemer statue, it came third lol.

Been looking at doing St Sunday Crag from Pinnacle Ridge route one for Yorkie and Cumbrianblue or anyone else with a bit of knowledge is there a path or route up to summit by that way avoiding and grade 2 or 3 stuff dont mind a bit of a test but I ain't ropes trained yet.

Hi Alan, there`s one crux move on Pinnacle Ridge graded as a moderate rock climb, but it can be by-passed, generally the ridge is graded at 1 or 2, but as I recall you can get round any tricky stuff. most of the impressive photo shoots are taken on a couple of spikes near the top end of the ridge. To get to the base of the ridge take the Elmhow zig zag path up from the Elmhow plantation in Grizedale (parking at the White Lion Patterdale), when the gradient of the path eases off a bit you`re in Blind Cove, look for a thin track off to your right and that track will take you towards Pinnacle Ridge, cross a couple of small scree shoots, then when you reach a larger scree shoot start directly uphill which should bring you to the base of Pinnacle Ridge.

Thanks mate been doing a bit of research on it and that climb comes up on it but no mention of avoiding it (I assume it's the steep climb up V in corner to avoid vertical Slab)

Might give it a go this weekend need a bit of wakening up :lol:

Staying with the outlaws in Whitehaven for a few days with our lass, this morning Wasdale was calling, it being only 20 miles away, and a good forecast. Off we went and had a very pleasant day taking in Yewbarrow and Red Pike.

Buttermere, Red Pike, Starling Dodd, Great Bourne my nemesis Hen Comb (The Hill with a moat) and Finally Mellbreak last Sunday a tad warm and sweaty is an understatement.

Yorkie I'm assuming this is Crux Corner this is as far is a dare go as a couple of mins later there was a cloudburst and the last thing I want to do is get someone up from their Sunday dinner to rescue some cragfast pillock.
It deffo looks doable so will be back very soon great climb up to that point too cracking day despite the Royal drenching B)

Aye, that's the crux Alan, near the top of the corner you can get yer feet into bridging stance, then from that it`s straightforward to get yerself onto the top of that bit of crag. That corner can feel a bit greasy in damp weather so you made the right call there fella.

Maybe you strayed onto shepherds crag, jackdaw ridge/donkeys ears Yorkie is correct about Elmhow zig zags, couple of scrambling routes, trial and error really lol, you look down and think, fk that...so you have to find the way up lol.

Solo hike on Sunday the plan was Great End Via Skew Gill and Custs Gully the sticking point was Custs Gully.
Managed to scramble to all but 30m from summit only to be met with a vertical pitch of slimey mossbound Rock impossible for a novice like me will return in winter when several feet of Snow have filled this in.
Did make summit but it was all the way down and back up another route.

Folk lore has it that in the 19th century a bloke in the Swan after a few drinks bet that he could ride his horse up to the top. He only managed to get as far as this rock before his horse fell and he was killed. In his memory the stone has been painted white ever since and called the horses head.
If true it was a bloody good effort to get that far, never mind on a horse.

"On a rocky site at 700 ft and clearly visible from the Cockermouth to Keswick road, is the "Bishop of Barf", a white painted stone marking the spot where, according to local legend, the Bishop of Derry was killed falling from his horse in 1783, after drunkenly betting he could ride up the hill. Both the Bishop and his horse are said to be buried near a smaller stone, the Clerk, at the base of the hill. Sadly, the story, although imaginative, forgets that the Bishop of Derry of the time died 20 years later in Italy. However, this Bishop's colourful life no doubt inspired a tale capable of capturing the imagination. The stone was whitewashed each year by staff at the nearby Swan Hotel, until the Hotel was converted to apartments. The whitewashing is now carried out by members of Keswick Mountain Rescue.

That's the story I was told as a kid too. Moral of the story is don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia!

Early start, parked up near Hartsop and walked over Middle Dodd, Red Screes, LIttle Hart Crag and High Hartsop Dodd, that Middle Dodd was steep, like scrambling on grass. Cracking day all the same, at the end of the walk it was a choice between getting in the pub and watching England, or going on a few miles to Penrith to see Carlisle, chose the pub and England - maybe wrong choice.

Anyone after a nice not over demanding walk with a great view too give Low Fell a try less than an hours walk from Loweswater car park pic taken last night a great way to enjoy the summer we are having whilst improving your fitness levels.

I hope all of you on here who live in Cumbria appreciate just how lucky you are. Drove into the county tonight on the A66. Was like the middle of winter driving past Stainmore on that high bit and even had the fog lights on. Yet, passing Blencathra could see Newlands and Borrowdale looking stunning with the last of the sun and the clouds hugging and drifting across the hills.
Whoever has that banner at games that says to be born Cumbrian is to win the lottery is not far off.
Makes you feel good to be alive.
