Did I miss the point? So we have had 49 claims of butchery, targeting civilians, rape, genocide, some more rape for our oaps etcetc. Its all been mince. But claim number 50 is true? Getting a bit tired isn't it?

Shopping malls in Ukraine have the same issues as the lanes. Internet sites, shoppers have no cash etc so half the shops are shut. Then add in that since February air, road, river and rail commercial transport is non existant, what shops are open and selling? A market, different question, but who is selling what, and to whom?

It could be true, but what is the chance, based on recent history?

With respect Laffy, if you move into a house you are liable to pay council tax. There are certain exemptions but they don't include being poor or being Ukrainian. You'll just have to help them out a little bit more until their universal credit comes through.

I don't think people on this messageboard will understand what you have to achieve to become a newly qualified solicitor at a top city firm. The salary is similar to a teenage footballer at a Premier League club but the job is much harder to get. Firstly you need to be in the top 25% or so of law graduates from Oxford or Cambridge or a star student at a handful of other universities to be selected to do your articles (training) at a top City firm. You are then expected to work a minimum of 60 hours a week and be constantly on call. You will have no social life. Your work is stressful and your job security is very poor as a newly-qualified if you don't hit your targets for chargeable hours. Frankly I am surprised that clever young people want to subject themselves to such purgatory in the hope that eventually they might make partner.

Europe is now preparing a letter from Lithuania that forces them to back down on Kaliningrad. Numerous countries have said no more money for weapons, NATO as of today can't defend Latvia if Russia invades. Britain has enough ammunition to support a war for 3 days. The British delegation was forced to admit that Scotland won't release any more funds for Ukraine from her budget. Ukraine has gone from a 3:1 advantage in numbers to parity on the front line. Europe needs the war to end before the cold weather comes, and China has rated very badly to US statements that it is encouraging war.

Boris's wild promises to Ukraine are just not deliverable. As Marko says we now don't have enough ammo for our own defences and NATO commitments never mind supplying Ukraine. And other European countries are in similar positions. We have done what we can to support Ukraine but as we are not on a war footing we don't have the defence production capabilities to sustain a war. Ukraine has mainly been using its huge stock of ex-Soviet shells. NATO shells are not compatible. The ammunition stores are being rapidly depleted and there have been almost comical attempts to source Soviet ammo from countries in Africa and Asia which have stockpiles. Arms dealers have been scurrying around trying to do deals only to find the Russians have beaten them to it by buying up everything they can in return for gold, cash and promises of cheap grain.

The military wants to pull back and find better territory to defend. Zelinsky won't let them, so the Americans can say that Putin can't take Donbass. Now, a month on, they are surrounded. Two thousand died in an afternoon trying to get out of Lisichshansk. On average, 700 hundred a day are taken out, dead or wounded. They have lost more men in the last month than we have infantry.

The Russians offered to open the sea so the grain ships could get out. The Ukrainians refused. The Turks have told the Ukrainians if the Uks clear the mines Turkish ships will come in and escort the grain out. The Russians have agreed. The Uks have said no. So now the Russians are shipping Uk grain to Russian ports, exporting it and selling it. The Uks are now torching their own grain silos. The Russians have even offered to move it to Europe for free, so the Europeans can export it. About a dozen ships left Riga. The EU won't accept it because of sanctions against exports from Belarus.

Just madness. But while we have huge inflation and are looking at a winter of no heating, Russia is doing just fine. Soon they'll have Kharkiv and Odessa, then what? Even if things turn down for Russia, Johnson will continue buying gas, coal and oil for roubles so that will be fine.
