Erm...

See on the Jabo thread where folk said they doubted we'd offer worse deals to an established player to get them out?

Well that's exactly what's happened here...

Why wouldn't we just release him then?

Can't be seen to be a bad guy...

Who? Curle?

One thing about Curle is I don't think he gives a shit about things like that. The way he's transfer listed popular players like Troy, Sweeney and Mark "Chiellini" Ellis in the past shows this.

If he didn't want to keep Raynes I very much doubt they'd offer him any sort of deal. As you mentioned early in thread, closer to his home and longer deal is probably what's sealed it rather than us offering reduced terms .

As for Jabo there's absolutely no way Curle wanted him gone. No way.

I suspect KC knew full well that Raynes & Jabo were leaving so here's hoping he can do the work required to improve the areas that cost us promotion.

Who know's with the right players brought in around them Miller, Brisley or Ellis could be great next season. I suspect it will take a few players to come in & not all of those listed will play. I'm half expecting Ellis & Brisley still to go tbh.

With us losing a couple of players, how long before people start kicking off about no signings...?

Everytime Raynes had possession at the back you heart was in your mouth wondering where the ball was going to end up especially when it was at his feet. I think uncomfortable in possession would be a fair assessment. Two-Left feet if you wanted to be unkind. He did a job whilst he was here when we we're trying to get out of a rut and he helped get us out of it and up the table.

He doesn't exactly smack you of a Crewe player who preach ball retention and passing football but then neither did their Manager when he played.

At least he is better than Brisley, you need an A-Z to guess where his passes will go

Sick of hearing 'Raynes cares', Because he does a few fist pumps on the pitch?

Actually the people i have seen saying it are ones that never see anything bad in the club.

Raynes cares about putting food on the table for his family. He said that himself in interviews. That means playing well enough to keep his place and get a new contract so yes I'd say he does care. That said all footballers should care.

Now you have said that Crewe will keep two clean sheets against us next season and Raynes will be their star player, then he will be totally shit in most of the other games he plays for them :)

Of course you're right. He'll have a blinder and probably score. Just never rated him. I'd like to think KC as one of the best defenders of his era will crack it this year.

I wouldnt hold your breath on that one.

Unless he genuinely manages to find a number of defenders who actually buy into how he wants them to play [ rather than just giving it lip service to join what they know is a club who treats its players well and who pay above average wages ] i would image we.ll be lumbered with another batch who.ll say exactly what he wants to hear knowing they simply havnt got those skills in either their feet or for that matter their head.

Personally i.d accept a lower skill set from a player who puts in 100% effort and who thumped his chest but it seems weve all been conned for the last 2 years by Mr Raynes when clearly he doesnt give a shit and has jumped ship to join the first two bit club to offer him a contract.

Now all that could be completely wrong and hes been totally shafted by Curle or Jenkins or both with a reduced offer or one not anywhere near the length of whats been offered by Crewe.

But i find it very strange that he gets his offer from Curle then two days later its a done deal in Cheshire no coming back and saying well Crewe have offered me this would you like to match it ? And i do think that if he gave a shit about the fans who for the last two years have in the main supported him and excluded him from the majority of the criticism of the defensive frailties he should offer an explanation of what went on beyond the 130 letter effort on twitter .

It's not a snap decision though is it, Raynes was offered a new deal in January. I doubt Clibbens, Curle and co would have bothered offering players contract extensions on lower wages mid-season. If they did, no wonder our form went downhill around that time.

Raynes' agent will have been speaking to north west clubs for months. The offer of more job security, closer to home, would be tempting for most people, whatever their line of work.

Raynes is a journeyman with a dubious taste in vests, not bad in the air but slow and mistake prone. We can do much better.

Well the interview at least clears up one thing and thats that our offer was only one year

But the rest of it doesnt make any sense he lives in Manchester and from what i know travels daily from there with two other players so i dont get the bit about being away from home although yes i get that the journey is of course a lot shorter. But you need to balance that against signing for Crewe a club who are really no more than a joke now that their conveyor belt of talent seems to have come to a juddering halt for an example of that next time you see them on telly look at the lack of bodies in their end and at how many of their fans travel away.

See this is what gets me about lower league footballers nowadays they know what the life entails and should be willing to either move home every 2 years or be willing to travel daily or think about alternative employment.

But from what seems to be coming out from that interview it was clearly CUFC who effectively engineered his departure could you have seen him signing for Crewe had we offered him the same length of contract that they did now whether you agree with that or not Curle clearly has plans that dont include Raynes and as its clear that hes staying all we can hope for it that next one to announce his decision goes our way.

To be fair to Curle I wouldn't have matched Crewes 3 year offer either even though I would regard Raynes as our best centre half.

Raynes will have been offered a year on the exact same terms. Doesn't deserve any more, Not sure why people are making a big deal out of it.

Jabo may have been offered reduced terms but he hasn't justified his (reported high) wage over the past 2 years.

I think Nabis will be more of a development/project typ one similar to what McQueens was

I would imagine Baileys would be a year as very few clubs only offer 6 month ones pre season unless there is a previous injury to account for

As i see it these two are an attempt to get two players Curle feels he can work with in at very little cost increasing what he has spend on the other slots he has to fill.

Raynes has an excellent attitude, was a mainstay in an awful defence over the last 2 seasons. In his favour he made several CB partners which probably didnt help things, but Raynes, Grainger and Miller played most games this season and I'm happy to see us search for an improvement.

Also, in his support if we had Jones, Joyce and Kennedy playing all games this season past we'd have conceded far fewer goals and ultimately with the huge defensive issues the book starts and stops with Keith 'we got to stop the opponents from playing' Curle.
