TOPIC: Aim to return to Brunton Park for 3rd Round?

Let's look at things sensibly.

When the Club get back into the Ground properly, contact the Football League and immediately postpone the Home games on 19th (Notts Co), 28th (Hartlepool) and 2nd (Plymouth).

Use the 3rd Round game as a target for a first game back, and get the whole city behind the game. Make it a voucher game too for if we go through. We could invite some of the folks who've been on the rescue scene as guests of honour, and the bumper crowd use it as an opportunity to say 'thank you'.

We'd then also have a nice run of Tues Night fixtures in March/April for a Play-Off push, including rearranged trips to Wimbledon and Dagenham! Momentum and all that.

We'd also be well on the way to the FA Cup Final after beating Chelsea in 4th Round up here!

Given the building trade shuts down for a fortnight in less than two weeks im not sure we will be back in for that.

Deffo realistic and it would be great for us to be up and running in normal circumstances but weve got christmas holidays looming and i can see the club struggling to get the man power to acheive this hope im wrong but i think we may be looking at mid jan before a ball is kicked .

however it's a moot point. Buildings have to dry out before most work can start, that's usually at least a month long process.. It'll be a late January return (Maybe Mid Jan, if Fred's crews get thrown at it).

I think it's possible, given the timescales of last time.

I reckon plenty of supporters would be willing to help if needed, or maybe they'd prefer the professionals to just get on with it.

Last time we did it without needing to play a conference game away from BP. Hopefully with only 2 league postponements that would be the case again.

Last time the turnout of volunteers was v poor. A neighbour of mine ,retired gent, went down and offered to help. He led me to believe there was only him and a couple of others turned out to help. As a thank he got meal in foxes and match ticket for two. He also got to.keep the wellies they issued him with.

Depends what is needed to be done. The pitch will probably be fine - unlike last time where it was in a terrible state - remember the Youth Cup match the other week was played the day after some (albeit minor) flooding. The offices and changing rooms can be replaced by portacabins on a temporary basis and the terracing can be hosed down.

Not going to be months of a job like my brother's house that we got back into this evening. My goodness, what a clarty mess we're going to start on when daylight comes tomorrow...

I'm no expert but surely having this flood water on it with all the shit out of the sewers on the pitch is different to just pumping rain water off the other week. also depends how far up the tunnel it has got.

Hartlepool have suspended the sale of tickets for the match in December. It was mentioned on another thread that Workington Town have a decent stadium now due to upgrades during for the Rugby World Cup. Is the capacity about 8,000? This would be a better option than Morecambe and we might even attract some new fans from West Cumbria. I dont like the idea of having a fixture pileup in the New Year especially when we are on form now. Points in the bag are always better than games in hand. Games played during the xmas / new year period also attract much larger crowds than games in January / Feb when its freezing and a lot of people are skint after xmas.

There's the sorting out of the club to do, and I hope to god that people's homes that are affected get sorted higher up the priority list than brunton park. The club will have to dry out, the pitch will need a lot of work due to the crud in the water being sat there for however many days/weeks. The water we had last month was a lot cleaner, and was taken off in a day. The pitch will be ruined because of this. Also the amount of authorities I imagine will be needed to check the safety of the stadium will be immense before we even think about the club being open for business. The 5 weeks in 2005 was with Fred's guys in, not saying they won't be this time but there are far more pressing issues to deal with than brunton park. Repairs to the stadium will be great in regards to what is and isn't trashed, along with the recovery of vehicles, computer systems and connecting electricity and plumbing up to an acceptable standard.

I fully expect the stadium be open to staff for a number of weeks before we can even hold a game there

As a Season Ticket Holder, after the events of the weekend, I'd happily let every sod in for £10 each game to make the Club a community hub where folk could come to forget about the troubles for a couple hours. Any ST Holder whinging could f*ck off for me!

A couple Preston fans on Twitter are saying our Notts county home match will be at deepdale.

Just saw that. They're at Leeds on the Sun that week.

Some Nob Ender posts a rumour from nowhere, and folk are wanting trains put on! Got to love the Internet at times!

Not sure of the layout of either Reds or Towns stadium but Im sure the Reds stadium is not up to football league standards on only holds about 3k? The match before xmas 0 i.e..Notts County match is always a low crowd so no idea why they would want to go to Preston for that one? Morecambe will be better. The Hartlepool and Plymouth matches could be held at Preston where we should get more than 6k for both.

Im sure our ace groundsman could sort derwent park out quickly.. for me its the logical choice to play home games. Twine about the pitch but come on.. its league 2 . Plus i would rather play games in cumbria than elsewhere if the football league allow it.

Just looked up Derwent Park - holds 10k but the ends look miles away from the goal. It held a Rugby World Cup match so should be good enough for League 2 football. With 10k capacity it is certainly big enough.

As I said on another thread.Big Fred had his workforce on en-masse last time to get the work done as quickly as possible to get the ground open.
That won't happen this time so it will take a lot longer for BP to be up to scratch.
I can see us playing the games at Gateshead Stadium.

Yes Derwent Park would be fine. Its closest for everyone to get to. It makes sense to utilise and will hold enough for people to get in. And holds more than Morecambe. No rugby on at present so pitch will be fine to use....plus the pies will be better too

Dumfries is as near to Carlisle as Workington.
The problem there being an artificial pitch and in a different country.

Gateshead is an athletics stadium so would be worse for football the Workingtons Rugby ground. Id vote to hold the home matches at Workington.

From a purely selfish point of view and having only last week bought tickets for the Hartlepool game as I'm back in the country for Christmas I hope they move it somewhere rather than postpone it, or this will be another season I don't get to see my beloved Blues! St James' Park is free on the 28th
On a more serious note the sooner we play the better, the last thing you want is a huge backlog of games building up for Feb/Mar if we want to continue our impressive form.

Newcastle Falcons rugby ground, Kingston Park would have been a good fit in terms of size.... but they put down an artificial pitch last year, so that is out of the running.

Get the pitch and floodlights sorted and then get a few portakabins in for bogs, offices and changing rooms and away we go. They'll only be about 3000 there for the visit of Yeovil so it shouldn't be too difficult numbers wise.

(I make it sounda lot easier than it will be of course!)

Spoke to a few folk today, and it seems it could be February before we play at BP.

An estimate of 4/5 Home Games was mentioned as needing moved or postponed.

Obviously PNE have set the ball rolling with the offer for the 19th, as they're away at Leeds on the 20th. Many PNE are boycotting that game due to tickets being roughly £40, so may get a few wander down. They can't help us on the 28th (Hartlepool) or 2nd Jan (Plymouth), as they're at Home themselves.

Rumours that Newcastle and Blackburn have both offered to help. Newcastle are away on the 28th, this would make sense given we're due to play Hartlepool. Blackburn are away on the 2nd Jan, which again would be handy for the Plymouth game. None of this is any way confirmed yet, and is merely suggestive based on hearsay.

The FA Cup game on 9th Jan v Yeovil, I've heard we've approached a possible host, after deciding not to forego Home Advantage. Nothing has been finalised yet though.

Next Home games after are York on 23rd Jan, and Accrington on 6th Feb. I reckon the latter could be used as a target date for a return, with a fallback of Stevenage on 20th Feb. No possible venues have been mooted yet for any potential changes here. Who knows, beat Yeovil and land a plum Home tie and we could concentrate the effort for 4th Round Weekend at the end of Jan?!
