Not that I think we're gonna get a new ground anytime soon, because I REALLY REALLY don't. But what I will say is, and this applies fairly to our current custodians attitude and likely ability in providing a scheme like this, these new grounds are rarely designed to be aesthetically pleasing, the reality is, they're all about the cost. Put it this way, if you were a developer involved with an enabling scheme where you had to provide a new football stadium in return for what you wanted to build, you'd not be building the hanging gardens of Babylon if Houghton Hall garden centre would do!

I'm inclined to agree with those who doubt the ambition and drive of our current owners when it comes to ground design, location and capacity.
I seem to remember AJ singing the praises of that bloody awful ground at Chesterfield. I hope and pray we don't move to something as soulless and as small as that.
If we are going to move it needs to be right otherwise rebuild where we are.

Problem with the viaduct site it's questionable if it's big enough for the stadium so how are we expecting to fit the enabling developments on to the site as well.
As much as I'm against it I can't see much further than a move Out of town be it North, West, East or South but again where has enough land available to have a stadium, training pitches, 3G pitches etc?

One would surely think, that if the BP site is of no use due to flood risk, then the viaduct is at similar risk and therefore also not suitable?

BTW I'm no fan of a move anywhere. I realise our custodians are either fairly potless or nigh on geriatric, There is no billionnaire and nobody is currently offering an enabling scheme anywhere, anytime soon.

Were not getting a new stadium, were not getting a redeveloped stadium, we aren't getting new training grounds we are getting nothing, why because when everyone else had owners and a council who wanted to modernise the city and football we have dinosaurs who don't want any progression at All, But if we were to get a stadium why move from one flood plane to another ?, the worst thing is that our current stadium is holding us back.

The site would be suitable for an arena, we could then knock down the Sands and let the river past.

Carlisle seriously requires a serious venue !!

The Viaduct is perfect if a bit of thought and long term planning went into it! it wouldn't be out of the question to raise the ground above flood level and cantilever a stand over the railway to allow a ground to fit in the space, revenue would be generated daily by utilising the space created underneath as car parking space money raised off that could go to paying off any potential lending unless Billionaire coughs up the money!! Office space, bars restaurants etc 365 days a year pumping revenue into the club, easy access for visiting fans and a lot more money for the town!! we can all hope

Carlisle is perceived to be a bottleneck in capacity where the West Coast and the Glasgow and South Western/Settle and Carlisle flows combine, and there is a belief that reinstating the former Carlisle Avoiding lines would relieve this bottleneck. As the information was not available to come to a decision on this within this RUS it is recommended that this study is passed to the West Coast RUS to progress

If the line is reinstated, it will follow the route shown in yellow below...

There will be no football stadium on the viaduct site. It is too small for all but the tiniest tin pot 3 sided breeze-block stadium. Even the mockup above doesn't fit.
All this cantilevering, raising, west wall entrance bollocks is more of a fantasy than our billionaire and blue yonder projects combined.
