2 out of 10 - 8 released and 4 in.
Top scorer sold on the cheap because a low release clause and replaced two out of form strikers in mens football. Grimsby got 750K for Bogle, a player whose played half a season of professional football. No LB and still a threadbare defence and having to shove a MF in at CB. I also think our rivals have strengthened.

Horseman will be patting themselves on the back. Project finish 8th or lower has begun and KC will get that peeved with their lack of ambition he'll be off with the first offer.
No semblance to push the club onto bright and better things coming from the board.

Would you prefer 2 in form strikers in women's football?

Markredfox, post #49 was a genuine point. How did you form the opinion that only Liddle was significant? Genuinely interested.

To be fair most ratings on this thread are a complete guess. I havent seen any of the new lads play. They could be brilliant or they could be shit or probably somewhere in the middle. We still need more defenders though and i thought Mckee would stay. I doubt he was signed to go right into the team. I thought hed grow and be here a good few years.

Who are the 8 out?

I've counted 7. Wyke, Atkinson, Wright, Penn, McKee, Ellis and Asamoah

Yeah Brough was simply a loan extension, just like Macauley Gillesphey the other way.

Liddle was in the planning for a while anyway so most expected it... the other signings all feel like quick scraps to make up the numbers which we had before all this. The timing of the Wyke sale was deliberate so the horsemen can make an excuse not to re use the cash... If folk think its been a good window...well i wont bother arguing the case..ive lost all will to twine for now.

Its been piss poor to bolster any push for promotion... Who cares if Pompey and Luton fk up,there are plenty of teams waiting to swallow us up now anyway..

Penn was already out on loan, only came back for 3 weeks so you could say thats not really a loss either.

Wright & Asamoah, Hopeless

Mckee & Ellis would have been half decent squad players at most.

Bloke I work with is a Bolton regular,he is a right misserable git would make a good paddock wallet, anyhow asked him about Procter and he reckons will do well here strong and pacey he said thought he was a good player and put some good performances in when he saw him

As for those whinging about the release clause ffs...it was the player that put it in and if we don't agree we can lose out

Who's to say he wanted a hundred grand clause and we negotiated upwards

It's just the fact that folk write 3 new signings off before they've even seen them play simply down to the fact they've never heard of them that pisses me off. Give the lads a chance ffs!

For Fucks sake its easy

Just say "we dont do clauses if you dont like you know where the door is youre quite welcome to use it our manager has another 50 names on his list Btw good look at fuckin Hartlepool "

But your mate could be righ about Proctor i asked the question this afternoon and the answer i got was " Well he seriously fell out with Parkinson in September yet hes still managed to stay in the team but he has been used in a variety of ways sort of wherever he was needed just to make the numbers up hes only played as an out and out number nine half a dozen times. If you persuade him to sign for you and get him for nowt it will be a very good bit of business "

Like it or not Barry, agents are a big part of modern day football. A few managers have spoken out against them but admitted you have to work with them or you'll get nowhere. What makes you think you could do any different?

Because my experience is the guy offering the work always has the upper hand and he will get what he wants in the end if he loses a couple of people he wanted to work with along the way he.ll just say so be it and move on.

Owen Oyston didnt let an agent thru the doors of BR in the 8 years uo to the year they were promoted into the Premiership so it clearly didnt do them any harm at that time. The first player they allowed to bring an agent was Charlie Adam as they were desperate to sign him and by then Koko the clown had succeeded his father and wasnt so principled on the matter. OO says over the 8 years it saved the club the best part of a million pounds.

We got shot of some players that have barely played, though I am not keen on Ellis going out.
Liddle seems like a reasonable signing.
O'Sullivan is unproven.
Proctor has a bit of pedigree and there is some hope.
Waring, no idea.
On paper, the three brought in this week look decidedly uninspiring signings, basically anyone we could get signed quickly, but of course they could surprise us.
Could have been worse but not hopeful - 3/10.

Unproven?

23 games in league 2 this year
25 in league 1 last season
year before, half in league 2/1 & a couple championship games.

Well, as we always say, if they were all that good , they wouldn't be signing for us. Fact of life if you are in our league, unless you spent some serious dosh, so let's see how they get on.

4/10 Happy with Liddle and O'Sullivan... Proctor is decent... Waring is an unknown for me .. but if you are 6'5 and can't score with Adams crossing you should give up football.

For me the problem is not with the incoming players... it is with the gaps in the squad. Way too many players allowed to leave and we are very vulnerable if we get a few injuries. The squad was too small before the window to sustain a long season. Yes a few of them hadn't played much but they were there if needed. Our defence is paper thin now.... and they were pretty crap in the first place. Should have kept Atkinson as he can cover 3 positions if needed and probably McKee too. We currently only have one decent fullback who is up to the standard required. Imagine if Raynes and Miller get injured? The whole handling of the Wyke transfer was a joke too. He has gone for the release clause fee so why keep it a secret... we were never going to get any more. If Curle thinks we were then he is as deluded as Barry. Let's hope the strikers can score a few or we could be in big trouble.

I think only getting a paltry £250k for Wyke is disappointing when you consider Wigan have apparently paid £1.2m for Omar Bogle. I know he's probably better than Wyke but not that much.

From what I saw he is a hell of a lot better than Wyke to be honest. We were never going to get more than the release clause for Wyke... the delay was about the payment terms.

I get the fact that if they met the 250k then it isn't going to go over that amount but is Bradford offering 1k now and 249k in ten years time still triggering the clause?

And if they didn't give us the full 250k right now then could we have told them to get stuffed and kept Wyke?

It doesn't sound like we got the full welt of cash now or it wouldn't be undisclosed so perhaps we could have kept him.

It depends on the specific wording really. Normally there are specific requirements that need to be met with regard to payments.

How come Adams and Jones ended up here then? By mistake?

Liddle seems like a reasonable signing.
O'Sullivan is unproven.

They came to play football by mistake, they are not from London you know....

Different situation there, they are both experienced players who we set our stall out for in the summer, not players we were scrambling around for to bring on loan within hours of the transfer window shutting.

I think we have a good squad and we have made some very good signings, don't know much about these new players , but it's hard to be filled with confidence, in the circumstances. This isn't the same as saying whether they are any good or not, that remains to be seen.

Some claiming that Proctor and Waring are rush jobs, with us just getting what we could in the last hours of the window, however if we've learnt anything about how Curle and Dykes do things we will know this is far from the case.

I'll give it 7/10, streamlined the squad and cut out players who have contributed very little to the squad so far whilst bringing in some genuine quality.

Who sells their top scorer in January ? Well ourselves along with Grimsby, Bristol Rovers and Brentford all did. With Taylor going for around the same as Wyke did (although that is being investigated - www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/artic...transfer-furore.html)

Main disappointed is not signing a left back, so we can only hope that we have a free agent lined up.

Players come and players go, complaining about the amount 1 is sold for isn't going to bring them back.

Apparently weve been monitoring Waring since before we signed Wyke and according to Proctor he was only told himself a week ago that he was going to be made available for loan so i would imagine he went on a list of possibles at that point incase the worst should happen and Wyke should leave.

My opinion is if you compare the squad as of this morning with the one on the first day of the season with all players fit and supposedly 2 more bodies to come i.d say today just about has it dont forget for the first few weeks of the season Wyke wasnt even a definite pick

Thing is, it could be a 3, it could be an 8.
Problem is it a big gamble and no one really knows how it will pan out.
You can see Curly Keith's viewpoint - it needed a big shape up as it was turning to shit, but it seems a bit of a toss a coin in the air.
No one is too sure how good these strikers are, and very little has been done to sort the defence.
Fingers crossed.

Well lets hope they take action and ban them completely or effectively stop them by making it that any club using that information has to then pay the fee 100% upfront in cash.

Would anyone care to estimate the wages saved on outgoing players and the wages we have added from the incoming palyers?

I'd estimate Wykes wage was £1,500 a week
Liddle maybe £1,800

Did we agree average League 2 was about 50-60k a year?

What was the average league 1?

Spot on, another post based on pure guesswork to go with the other 150 over the last few days. Nobody knows the figures so what's the point?

Incoming look like decent players. Should now carry a threat on both wings, providing O'Sullivan goes straight in to the side. Unfortunately, we look likely to need 3 new forwards in the summer. There is still no cover at LB, and a squad which was stretched going into the month is now even smaller.

Wyke was inevitable, but the club has not handled the situation well.

On reflection, it's too early to say how well the window went. Could be anywhere from 3/10 to 6/10.

The failure to land a left back is verging on criminal.

Revising my ratings due to the addition of Bailey.

Anywhere from 5/10 to 7.5/10.

Still think the lack of a LB could be our downfall though.
