He’s back:

Good to see him back. Just hope he is over his injuries.

Least he’s capable of hitting a dead ball, something we’ve struggled with this Season!

Definitely looks like it's one of Holdsworth's signings:

“The fans will know him better than me [...] Sometimes when players have a good time at a club, they’re comfortable and want to get back here. That was very much the case with Jamie.”

Contrast that with what Millen said about Patrick, another one of Holdsworth's signings:

"I made it clear that I didn’t want him to just feel comfortable. That isn’t a good reason to go somewhere, and it isn’t a good reason for me to look to sign someone."

It's obvious from that that Devitt was a late-in-the-day attempt to keep the fans onside. Millen contradicts himself between signing Patrick and Devitt about going somewhere to feel 'comfortable', so he doesn't look like Millen's signing. I hope Devitt does well but his record since leaving us almost three years ago has been pretty awful. Waiting until the last hour or two of deadline day to do all of this smacks of desperation.

Speaking of DH, that’ll have been an interesting conversation when negotiations began!

We’ve had some shit luck with injuries so far this year.

Just waiting for Omari Patrick and Feeney to pick up season ending injuries to top it off.

Looks like he's a bit of a crock which is a shame.
That’s a bit of a blow, his vision in midfield will be a miss.

Not quite sure we can complain about our luck with injuries - poor training facilities doesn’t help but looking at those injured:

Clough (now left): did we expect anything else ?

McDonald - near 30 year old CB whose played more than 30 games in the EFL once - obv underlying fitness issues.

Devitt: new about his track record with injuries and by all accounts didn’t have a medical - which would fit with the time he signed.

Dickenson: if he plays Saturday it will only be the second time since 2017 he’s played 30+ leauge games

Senior: Very unlucky.

Mellor: a player who hasn’t played 30+ leauge games since 2017.

If you sign crocks and have poor training facilities what do we expect.

Yeah Simmo has made a point of mentioning our poor training facilities already.

We saw how desperate it got last season and probably contributed to our post January collapse.

It’s something the club need to address if they come into anymore transfer money in the next year or so.

I've enjoyed Devitt's recent performances, some very steady play compared to the sea of crapness we have seen for large parts of the season.
I suppose the above highlights why you are always going to need a mix of experience and youth at our level, plus loanees who can come in and fill a few gaps..
I guess this is why we will never reached that nirvana as you always have to hedge your bets with how you assemble a squad and you are always going to have a couple of ageing crocks and a couple of crap younger players , however good your recruitment is (unless you have money to burn)

Going to miss Devitt’s composure and experience in midfield, shame really. Time for Riley to be moved back in there, either Devine or Armer (Dickenson left back) at right back.

I'd prefer to keep Riley at right wing-back and give Devine a pop in the advanced role Devitt's been playing in midfield.

Feel for Jamie he was so keen to get back and is now looking at being released instead of getting a new contract at the end of the season, without having the chance to prove himself worthy of a new contract.

I'd look to tie him down for another year irrespective of his injury.

He seems to like it up here, so maybe he'd take a lesser contract with appearance bonuses on offer. Unless there's someone out there we can get who can offer us more.

Anyone on here with any insider knowledge as to whether he'll be offered a deal?

It seems he`s had some decent performances in the friendlies, I`d say he`d be worth an offer.

If he signs, then Gibson and Hilton will be ahead of him for the ‘10’ role, he may actually play a bit deeper as with Dixon out long term and Charters carrying a knock, we don’t have too much cover in the middle of the park?

If he signs, don’t expect him playing every week, but excellent choice from the Bench, especially with 5 Subs permitted now, and his attitude in and around the Dressing Room is known to be liked a lot by the Management…

Before yesterday I would have said he was certain to get a contract…thought it was a bit strange that he only got 5 minutes at the end of the game yesterday though so now I’m not so sure!

Fully expect that. He played deeper for us in the few games under Simmo last season. He was more of an 8 with Gibson the more advanced in the midfield 3. Don’t think he ever played as a 10 under either Millen or Simmo.

6 month deal would suit all parties at this stage

No brainer for me given his experience and presence in the dressing room.

50+ games this season and we don’t really have much midfield cover for Moxon & Guy.
