It's still a no-brainer to give him a contract and now he's proved his fitness doubly so, I don't understand the delay.
His versatility is key, for me. He can provide cover for either flank, play as a deeper lying midfielder, in the "ten" role, as a "false nine" or in a front three.
With an injury or suspension or two in central midfield he would, at the very least, provide excellent cover - and he obviously wants to play for us.

Paul Simpson with the latest on Jamie Devitt, and looking to add more numbers to the squad 👇 https://t.co/qruM2b0Klt
So it’s a pay as you play offer by the sound of it. I doubt he’ll accept to be honest as I’m sure he’ll be able to get a proper contract somewhere else.
quality player desperate to play for Carlisle, don't come along often
I pray we haven't insulted JD with a derisory offer
For the first time since Simpson came back, I find myself disagreeing with him here.
A fit Jamie Devitt is the best midfielder at the club. Coupled with the fact he loves it here, and is desperate to remain here
Simpson set him a challenge to come back fit and willing to work hard after the summer.
Devitt did all that, and has done everything Simpson has asked of him over the last few weeks
