Newcastle are at home when we play notts. Its a decent pitch and offers us a chance to avoid a backlog of fixtures. Which can only help our season

First thought was well done pne and cufc.
Second thought was about my season ticket.
Third thought was wouldn't it be great if we could use St James for the monkey match.

As if some people are complaining about this.

We won't play at Newcastle. They'd just send us to Gateshead.

Straight down the motorway.
Straight down on virgin trains (ST holders get discount remember)
Good pitch

I think it's one of the better options that's been suggested.

Well done Preston North End.

Forest at home on that day maybe scuppered that idea. The Sunday maybe could have worked though.

Would mean we would finish the season with two home games and Notts with two away. Doubt they'd want that.

its quite clear that Virgin Trains, being the shirt sponser, had a hand in this. with the amount of time it will take to get Brunton Park up and running again......this could be regarded as Carlisle United on Tour/Roadshow. only joking....but thats what it sounds like by reading this thread.

Actually some of the Southern based blues will benefit. Preston is a lot nearer and easier to get to than Carlisle so there might actually be some who can't manage home games who might be able to make this one. It's also nearer Nottingham so there might be more away supporters as well which, assuming we still keep all the usual gate receipts, is also beneficial.

Morecambe or Workington would have been better for the Notts County fixture. Will probably only be one stand open. Its going to be difficult to predict the crowd for this one. 4.5k if it was at BP - we could loose a lot of money on these relocated fixtures.

Am I the only that's no too happy. Don't understand why we can't just postpone it. 200 mile round trip for a home game!

I'm no sure what you're on about chamipion95. When did southern based blues and notts county fans take priority.

I never said they did take priority. It was simply a comment on the fact that whilst a lot of supporters will be none too happy, there are some that will find it easier to get to Preston than to Carlisle. From a playing point of view a month of postponing home games could really derail the season so I think it's better we play if we can.

At the end of the day though there are a heck of a lot of people in the county who are trying to sort out their ruined lives 2 weeks before Christmas - some for the 2nd or 3rd time in a decade, and there are actually people whinging about the location of a football match - get a bit of perspective.

I don't understand how anyone could prefer postponements to matches being played, where ever they are played.

At this stage no one can possibly know how long it will take to get back into Brunton Park. It was five weeks last time but it could be twice as long this time. No one can guarantee major faults wont be found as the stadium is put back together, it's ten years older and ten years more neglected. Looking around the city there are areas where tarmac has been ripped up and metal buckled, how do we know what the pitch is like, and how fast it will repair, until we get rid of the water and thick layer of mud. I really hope we can get things up and running quickly but we just don't know.

On top of that there are no guarantees on the weather, in a bad winter we could lose three or four games naturally to the weather, either home or away and these would also have to be played midweek. We can't cross our fingers and hope. Any games that we can get played now we should because it's crucial we don't end up playing a trench of games at the end of the season, Playing two and three games in a week certainly was the catalyst to send Halifax Town down to non league'

It's going to inconvenient, even a flipping nuisance traveling to random grounds but come on. . . We are Carlisle, from the North, we can do this. Compared to some of the suffering in the county this weekend, this is us going on our holidays.!

So thank you Preston North End ( not something I say very often) and thank you anywhere else who helps us out .

Crazy decision to play at Preston asking fans to travel 90 miles for a home game. Should have been postponed and played later in 2016... Awful decision by club in my opinion
What's the rush took re-organise the game it's not like we have a congested fixture list at the moment should have just pp this one and waited to see how were looking towards Christmas for the Hartlepool game before we started playing games

Notts County refused to swap dates as Forest are at home on the 19th and they didn't want to be away last game of the season

I seem to remember it helped us a great deal playing midweek home games against Swansea and Nottm Forest the last time we had a realistic shot at promotion. No complaints at all from me in playing this game away from home.

Will the gate revenue be going to our club? Falls well for me this game work wise. But if it's like paying for a ticket for Brunton Park, they can ram it up Jenkins' arse!
There's only one United!

It's about a 25minute walk from the station to the ground, depending on what times people are going (if via train) there is plenty of pubs on the way up to break the journey. Used to cost me £4/5 in a taxi from the station when I lived by Deepdale.
Thinking Virgin might use it as a bit of an opportunity and provide discounted travel on the train for everyone with a ticket rather than just ST holders for this one?
