Can't see both of Brisley and Ellis being at the club either by the time the season starts or by the time the transfer window shuts, unless Raynes doesn't sign. Brisley more likely to still be here than Ellis (unfortunately).
Signing a decent centre half is priority whether we get promoted or not.

If Raynes stays they could do a lot worse that get Moussa Diara from Barrow the lad will go for big money one day

And theres a chance we might get Gillesphrey this year Newcastle getting promoted will have kicked him down the pecking order there

Seconded. The blokes huge (6ft 6in) and deserves a go in League Football. Think Preston were looking earlier in the Season...

Think he's under contract until 2018 though so no chance we'd pay for him?

Yeah from what I've seen of Diarra he'd maybe be worth a go in league 2.

If Mark Ellis has been as immense as people say he has been in the conference this season then maybe we could offer barrow a swap or part exchange.

I hate the phrase, Robbie Savage uses it in every show he is on 'I'm like Marmite' but Ellis is like Marmite, rated and hated.

When he came to Carlisle he changed our form right around and then our season went to pot when he left.

His record with Forest Green must be pretty impressive.

Ellis must think what do I have to do to get any sort of praise whatsoever.

He played in 12 games for us this season, 5 of those were in the cups, so I'd hardly say him leaving had anything to do with our downturn in form.

Mark Ellis came in last season in November and was excellent for us. If we hadn't had him, we may well not have gotten the Everton draw in the FA Cup and had no chance of the play-offs once we were back at Brunton Park. Curle wanted one centre-back to fully defend and one to play football this season because we had no play from the back last season when Grainger was out and ended up restrcited. Gillesphey looks as if he has a 'if he's fit he plays' clause in his loan deal, especially when we got him extended in January. Curle went for Raynes over Ellis, likely because he's more of a leader and would benefit Gillesphey and the team more so Ellis probably to a strop and Curle lost faith in him. Also, with Brisley also being a new signing, Curle may have preferred to give him chances over Ellis.

Ellis got my player of the season vote last season and I still rate him as our best defender in our squad (that's purely on his defensive capabilities). I can't see him staying at all and he'll surely go to Forest Green permanently if they are promoted. It's sad to see and unfortunately we've already rued it this season with our shocking defensive record (Ellis only playing a handful of those games).

If you take out the money and protocol issues which wouldnt of been an issue in the first place if Jenkins had stepped up to the mark and done what any sane right minded owner not suffering from senile dementia and very deep pockets would have done i dont see how anyone could say sending Ellis out on loan was a good move.

Four centre backs at the club one injured, one playing like shit and what does Curle do sends out the only other logical option on loan just so he can bring in some guy he clearly has some sort of fixation about signing and then playing out of position makes no sense whatsoever to me if he didnt rate Ellis or the way that he plays why the fu ck did he sign him in the first place ?

And given the way we.ve played since xmas [ ie none of the playing out from the back crap ] i suggest Ellis and his style would actually be the player that would of suited the style the best.

I actually don't think there is much between any of our center backs all being pretty decent at this level none being outstanding but none seem to have found a partner they seem comfortable with and the manager certainly hasn't found a competent combination at the back

not sure what the answer is...probably a complete overhall of the back 5

I'm going to put the opposite opinion out there.... I think all of our defenders are poor at this level.... none of them are good enough for a team looking to be promoted. Look at the amount of goals we have conceded... it's just not acceptable. 1 clean sheet since October and people still think we have decent defenders at this level. Well the stats say differently. Anything other than a complete overhaul of the defence and we will be in the same position of having to score two or three goals per game to win. That will never get you promotion.

(I am saying this last thing in the hope that fate will intervene and prove me wrong in the upcoming play offs ;-) )

The defence isn't great but the rest of the team have to take their share of the blame.

As Bill Shankly always said you defend from the front.

What a difference its made in games recently with Jabo and Proctor holding the ball up front.

I do agree.... but the defence has to take responsibility for some of the calamitous defensive errors this season... my particular bug bear is failing to mark up correctly and ball watching from crosses and set pieces.... the number of free headers teams get against us is ridiculous. Holding the ball up well is important but won't cover up that kind of poor defending. Compare our goals conceded record against the rest of the top 7 and it proves the point.

I agree that all our defenders are at this level I think Ellis has a promotion on his CV but what we desperately need is someone who has experience of a higher level and who is an organiser I know Raynes has his fans but think probably because he is a bit of a chest thumper

I am in complete agreement that the whole defensive unit needs changed..I would keep Grainger in squad the rest could go for me

Just been looking at those out of contract this Summer:

Joe Ward
Ben Thomlinson
Jabo Ibehre
James Bailey
Patrick Brough
Max Crocombe
James Hooper
Junior Joachim
Samir Nabi
Alex McQueen

Also our current Loanees:
Jamie Proctor
Macauley Gillesphey
George Waring

Think we'll offer any a deal?

Curle has said he wants to keep Jabo. He's obviously a fan of Bailey too. An approach for Gillesphey wouldn't be a surprise either?

How many of the first team squad are on the transfer list? Brisley & Ellis definitely were. Of those without deals for next season only Jabo and Proctor I would think are costing us much so I don't imagine Curle will have much budget to bring players in. I think the key will be loan players, I would like to see 4 or 5 coming in on season long loan.

Agree kaiser him and Raynes had a great partnership when he first came in and played a big part in keeping us up. Not sure what went wrong ......but nobody has mentioned the real reason we've shipped so many goals ...Mike Jones . without him in the team to cut out attacks, together with Joyce in partnership , its been like a knife through butter at times.

Surely Thomlinson won't get a deal he has hardly played and when he did I don't think he touched the ball. He gets himself in all the photos and that, he's more like a mascot!

Suggestion to KC : recall Ellis and offer them, FGR, Brisley

How come this terrible CB Ellis got such a long contract KC ?

I'd get shot of Raynes, Brisley and Ellis if I could.

Raynes is probably the best of the 3 but he's easiest to get rid of as he's out of contract.

I hope FGR take Ellis permanently but I have my doubts that they will. Maybe Mellon will take him at Tranmere seeing as he played under him previously.
