I will say it one more time, Devitt does NOT want the money that will bankrupt the club, he will accept what he is on now which is very affordable to the club, if they can't match the wages he is on now, then christ we are in trouble!

I agree that we should not break the bank for anyone who has been at the club last year, but we would not be, and as stated, his stats back him up. He would quite rightly argue, I am happy to stay on the same money (offered far more elsewhere), can you meet me halfway and add a year.

SP keen for this to happen.

Probably too late now as I would think Devitt has been up or down to the clubs that are interested now and they would have shown their ambition going forward and made him feel a major part of their plans, while he has not signed though, maybe we have a chance.

I am looking forward to seeing the new lads, young, hungry, a step up for them, they may struggle at times but I think we will all get behind them. Need a couple of experienced players in, not talking 30/31 but maybe 26/27 who have played a few games at this level or above.

The Devitt situation defies belief.
The club's best player, despite being offered better deals elsewhere, wants to stay.
How often does that happen in the modern day game?
The club's one size fits all approach of offering 1 year contracts to everyone feels like something from a Communist state.
Honestly, what on earth is such a ridiculously inflexible, narrow minded approach all about?
What if Norwood or Doidge or Tyler Walker or Jay O'Shea wanted to come to the club?
Would we offer 1 year deals to them?
It's clearly sensible to have reduced the wage bill by releasing the high earners and getting rid of the bonus structure.
It's sensible to offer more affordable wages.
This will reduce the debt and make the club more sustainable going forward.
But to insist on a limit of 1 year deals to all players is just plain daft.
What happens if we get Yates back on a 1 year deal and he scores 20 goals next year?
Instead of a saleable asset he can leave on a free.
To have a one size fits all approach makes no sense at all. Offer deals the club can afford but limiting contract length imposes a completely unneccessary straightjacket when one isn't needed.
I can't imagine for a minute any other club in the league has such a blanket policy regarding contract length. A wage and bonus structure, absolutely, but contract length? Come on.
There must be enugh football know how at the club to realise they've made a mistake on this part of the process.

It's took a while NCF but you're finally learning about what it's like following this club with this sh1t shower in charge.

Give it another 6 months and you'll be just as incredulous, frustrated, angry and disillusioned as the rest of us.

The thing is I'm not at all clued on really on how the club has been run in the past or indeed is being run currently to be honest.
But, the Devitt situation is just madness. I just cannot understand why we would risk losing our best player because of an arbitrarily set limit on contract length.
The youth team lads are on 2 year deals, I think, so why not the club's best player. Madness.
It just doesn't make any sense at all to me. I can see the need for the club to get on top of the 20k a week loss and to relook at it's wages policy.
But with the 1 year deals it's imposing a completely unneccessary and potentially harmful restriction on squad development.

I think a lot of the board's hostility to longer term contracts comes from the serious injuries to Jason Kennedy and Nicky Adams. Jenkins got a huge shock from having to pay Kennedy's high wages and rehab/physio bills for over a year with no return. Holdsworth would be pushing at an open door if he wanted to pursue a policy of maximum 1 year contracts. However this doesn't reflect players' actual injury records. Devitt doesn't put himself in the same situations to get injured like Nicky Adams did from clumsy defenders. I understand the need for a firm policy on contracts but a bit of flexibility around the edges can't do much harm.

I see Darlo fans have raise 80 grand for the manager to spend.

Wouldn't it be nice if our trust could raise those sort of funds for the manager or even for the fans benefit

Yes, lots of good points there carwash and can understand the club's frustration with losing players long term to injury.
But getting injured is part of the game and it can happen to any player at any club - not just us - irrespective of contract length.
Far better, surely, to make sure the club's insurance policies are in order to cover them when a player gets injured?
And of course to counter the downside of having an injured player on a long contract there's the possibility of a potential transfer fee if the player performs well, squad development and cohesion, not needing to find 10 or more player each pre-season...

Well supporters this is the club you now have, due to the owners/trust and any direct action.

1 year contracts and getting any cheap Scottish player from cabbage leagues and conference players. Silly PR shots, that people fall for, by putting in stupid offers for Yates etc.

Carlisle United is better than this, but as per usual we just bounce along just about surviving in this poxy league year after year.

Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up at Grimsby. He's had two spells there and the fans seem to like him.

If this is true and I have no reason to doubt Lummy's source, and it is indeed only an extra year Devitt is asking for and not more money, then this is absolute madness from the club and a clear sign that the people in charge don't want what's best for the club.

He shouldn't even have to ask for a 2 year contract. That should be at the very least what we offer.

He usually replies to emails to be fair to him, but he will reply that this is not his department.

There are no real answers he can give or you can get, because he will say DH in charge of it, then DH will say he is working on behalf of the board which is fair enough, then the board wont say who is actually running the club so its pointless.

As for attending meetings, I find them a waste of time as they just roll out the same old answers and hide behind confidentiality or say "its not my department".

I do not think NC has any say in these negotiations this year, it is between DH and the player, and whoever DH is working for.

I just know and I dont think it is hard to work out how, that JD willing to stay, SP wants him to stay, would take same money which is affordable, but 2 years.

The contracts offered to others are not great either, but this is where we are. As I said, lets see if these young lads can hit the ground running and SP gets the team going with his philosophy and spirit he wants to create. I think he may do well.

If they do hit the ground running they'll be sold for peanuts in the January window.

Pressleys latest statement makes it sound like he is going to rely on loan players up front, if that's true lets hope they are season long loans. We all know how it worked out last season with the half season loans.

I thought he was a player who relied massively on his pace. At 36 and injury prone this would be a desperately poor signing imho.

Both Campbell and Curle (love or hate them) kept their respective clubs (us at the time) in the league by the skin of their teeth whilst inheriting a poor squad.

Fire-fighting may be their strength as Curle showed with Northampton again this year but as for gaining promotion then both have a lot to prove but I know where my money would be if I had to back either.

Doubt Curle will ever manage a top club but at least there was method in his madness. Not sure you can say that of Pressley.
