Surprised to see Arthur Ghanoua has been training at CU this week.....must have been a lonely experience.

Once again we seem to be going for a small squad who can play multiple positions: If the player we offered contracts too reject the deals
I can see us signing 1 more defender a right footed centre half, as Braithwait will probably be the the back up right sided defender.
3 centre mid players, one of which can play multiple positions (i.e right back , right midfield )
2 wingers , (1 of which is a striker come winger
And two strikers
That would give us a squad of around 19 players (including the First /second year pros ) which is what Holdsworth said the squad size would be .

There has been around 20 training here, including trialists & our own young proffesionals.

I've heard we are interested in Raith Rovers forward Kevin Nisbet.

I've seen him a couple of times on Alba recently and he looks a bit raw but 34 goals in 45 games in all comps this season is not too shabby.

Edited to say he's contracted til 2020 so that seems unlikely.

Trials can work. In the early Knighton days we used host trials off season, we had a certsin Simon Davey in those. We signed him and was a great player and we made 100k from him.

As soon as the the playoffs are finished I'm putting a bet on for CUFC to go down. Crowds will not hold up as we will be nowhere near the playoffs.

Seem to remember a few posts last year setting the same prediction for seasonal performance before a ball is kicked and players have enlisted for a season.

Cosgrove just scored his 21st of season. 17 in SPL - joint top scorer!

We did well to get 40k and a sell on clause with Cosgrove , he was set to sign a pre contract agreement for the next season with them, we did waste the 40k though.

Stefan Scougall is in the picture for the Carlisle Half Marathon promotion on the Official Site today. Don't know if this indicates anything and I may be clutching at straws but would hope he wants to stay.

Substantial could be anything knowing us. The full story also mentions Hallam Hope being of interest to an unnamed League One club according to the same Yorkshire source. May well be some forward movement soon.

Might be like those penniless punters on Ebay who like to bid £2000 for a Rolex knowing it will sell for £5000. I do think it makes good business sense to try and buy him even if we have to pay £100k upwards. I don't understand why Rotherham would let him go when he could be worth much more in the future.

Rotherham fan at work says Yates wasn't suited to their style of play last season and didn't impress for them when he got a chance to play. Don't think they're too fussed about keeping him.

I'll doubt Rotheram will accept anything less than 100k, unless it's a loan deal, especially with others sniffing. We've no strikers at the moment so will have to break the bank to get some in unless we struggle.

You're likely correct.

As Yates is likely going to Swindon we've probably made a bid around that amount, which Rotherham won't likely accept, to stop Holdsworth/owners getting stick for not trying etc. If we get him for that amount then great/bonus if we don't then we tried.

I've heard though that Rotherham only want to send him out on loan - so will see.

You're possibly right, but we apparently paid 50k for Richie Bennett so I guess it wouldn't be out of this world to pay the same for Yates.

Say for example last season when we flogged promotion that we offered a last gasp 50k for Yates and not the 75k that they were more looking for, if he now costs 100k then we are losing money.

They wont reveal any figures at Carlisle United and disclose things because fingers will get pointed at them because of their incompetence.

You never know, Holdsworth loves to blow his own trumpet so we might have got him half price.

If we don't hear anything then basically we paid more than we last offered.

We have a multi millionaire Chairman and a Billionaire backed company on the BoD. Signing Jerry Yates should not be a problem... If they are serious about building up a promotion worthy squad.

What a turnover of players this is going to be. Really ripping it all up.
It's not beyond the realms of possibility that we could start our 1st game of the season with only Collin left from the last game of this season.
I wonder if any team has ever started the 1st game of a new season with a completely different set of outfield 10 players?

Us and Swindon are going through major cost-cutting exercises. Rotherham have been relegated and presumably need to get the wage bill down. Why are we offering a fee? He could hardly get a kick at Rotherham last season. Decent sell on clause and no wage contribution should be all Rotherham want. If they thought he was half decent they would keep him and play him, they are only in L1.
