Even before the club decided to go with 1 year contracts, recieving a Carlisle United calendar at Xmas is the worst present you could give. By the time you get to July a majority of my favourite players are rarely with the club anymore. This season will be no different, in fact worse than before.

They are trying their hardest to flog off Hallam Hope, don't know why as he is not that bad but now that Devitt has gone then he will see that the squad is depleting in quality and may see greater chance of success elsewhere..

Etuhu I initially would have thought would follow but he is currently injured so that may put a few suitors off.

That would mean that if we start the season off with only Etuhu left from the Curle era will Holdsworth blame Etuhu for bringing the club to it's knees?!?

There are a few on here who I know get the info from their very good sources, so they know it was a one year deal offer.

As I’ve said, it may not be DH giving these out, it may come from above.

If we get Jerry Yates back in on loan, maybe the loss of Devitt wont be as bad

It is getting to the point where they will be paying minimum wages to every player, no stars or big hitters just hopefuls that wont even be worth any money even if they are any good because of the length of the deal.

If they are slashing the budget in half then a ticket should cost no more than fifteen quid to represent the value on show.

If a butchers/bakers etc used cheaper ingredients for their product and took the piss out of you by charging the same price then you wouldn't be happy....

Even squad players like Gillesphey who will have been on low money have been let go.

If they are not going to spend then why should we.

If I'd bought a season ticket I'd be wanting my money back the way things are going.

The next few weeks will need to pass before we can judge the situation fairly. There has been a few refusing to go now, they will look silly if there are a few belting signings lined up.

Just read the latest CUOSC offering-reads like a propaganda sheet to be honest and the drivel about past players, including Broadis, Bowles etc is utter nonsense.Devitt was a decent, but inconsistent 2nd division player and we have lost him through lack of cash-not because he was moving on to the international stage for Christ’s sake!!

Whilst I agree with your comments about Devitt, the way the situation was handled was at best desperate and could have been concluded weeks ago. Let's hope this lad from Penrith is the new David Beckham then. Though somehow I doubt it.

Well it’s clear we have a budget and they are sticking to it.You either accept it and support or complain/move on.Its early days for me so giving them the benefit of the doubt in terms of recruitment-give it another 2 weeks before it looks more challenging.

Devitt was a decent player but decent players come and go-would prefer a team of young lads to be honest.The league is so bad the risk of failure isn’t high in my view

Agreed, the issue for me with Devitt is the decision not to give him another year, I feel if anyone deserved it, it was him.

We might not miss him, we need to give DH & SP a chance to do their recruitment, they could find better for less you never know, who all buy into what they want to do. It is a gamble but may well work, this is the position the club finds itself in unfortunately.

Lets be honest though, SP wants the best players, and would have been desperate for JD to stay, and would have wanted the 2 year deal offered.

Support is much needed this season.

Holdsworth said we were keeping tabs on him, at no point did anyone from the club say we were making an offer for him, so its a bit of a leap to get to being rejected for a National League North Side on better terms. He came on trial and was of interest, we will probably carry on monitoring him at Bradford Park Avenue.

But guess its pre season so best not let the truth get in the way of a good conspiracy theory

Don't worry about support, there's always the 3,500-4,000 who will go no matter what happens. The owners deserving that is another story.

So what do we have, about 8 first team players currently?

Given that Pressley said he wants to have his full squad ready for the start of preseason, that gives us what, 2 weeks to sign about 12 players? And that's assuming we don't sell Hope or McCarron during that time.

Pretty dismal stuff from Holdsworth so far it has to be said.

How about two million for Mcarron plus Nathan Thomas in exchange from Sheffield Utd. That’s the sort of deal the club should look for not 50 quid with sell ons the club usually agrees to.

Why stop at £2m? Let's go for £6m.

I don't think he was going to be highest paid, still a couple on more, maybe on par, but genuinely was not about the money.

But, I am glad he has said what he had to and why he has had to leave. We can all move on.

I can't believe they've made it public that it was a 1 year contract. With the amount of people going radge solely over the speculation, I assumed that the best in the buisness at non disclosure agreements would have it well under wraps.

NC and DH best have something good lined up, and soon, at least to stop the barrage.

It says -
"[censored] this. Please don't renew my season ticket,I'm done with the club"

I don't encourage him swearing, and have never actually heard him swear.

But he's right.

If your building a team to aim for promotion you’ve got to have some continuity and accept that some players are of greater importance than others and give them a decent deal of which a one year contract is not. Are we going to completely rebuild the team every season, that’s a recipe for disaster.
Talking of signings there are only a couple of weeks until they report back for training, gone to have to sign a player a day over that period to get the squad numbers where Pressley said he wants them. Should be one mad time.

Think with what’s gone on with devitt is the last straw for me personally. Unless the club manage to bring in better players and I eat my words between now and the first game of the season I seriously doubt I’ll be going back which is hard for me considering I’ve rarely missed a home game since I started going in 2003. Just completely disagree with how the club is being ran at the minute.

Disgrace thats he was only offered 1 year - bet they will lose out in season tickets sales now.

To read that - on the official site too - is disgraceful. Our best player by a country mile who they said they wanted to build a team around, couldn't be offered more than 12 months. How can you build a team around a player with which you clearly don't value beyond a short term, no security contract.

If it was money I could get my head around it. If it was him wanting away then likewise.

Probably has been, but I’m struggling to remember a summer like this where all that is coming from the club is just negative negative negative. I’m amazed they’ve managed to sell the number of season tickets they have really.

Can’t help but feel those running the club wouldn’t be that arsed if the club ended up relegated when you read things like this. Either that or David Holdsworth is just really really shockingly shite at his job.

I can only assume they wanted him to leave. I'm not sure why they even bothered offering him a contract.

Seems like a perfectly reasonable policy to me.

If Devitt had really wanted to stay at the club, he could've backed himself to be successful next season and renegotiated an improved contract in Division Three for 20/21. He chose to leave (and good luck to him) but let's not kid ourselves this decision was anyone other's than Devitt's.

Why should any player have a contract longer than a manager? It's all about winning and losing as a team, isn't it?

I agree with trying young prospects down to longer deals, but why should he have a deal until 2021 but Devitt only till 2020?
