I hope all of you on here who live in Cumbria appreciate just how lucky you are. Drove into the county tonight on the A66. Was like the middle of winter driving past Stainmore on that high bit and even had the fog lights on. Yet, passing Blencathra could see Newlands and Borrowdale looking stunning with the last of the sun and the clouds hugging and drifting across the hills.
Whoever has that banner at games that says to be born Cumbrian is to win the lottery is not far off.
Makes you feel good to be alive.

Well I was born half Cumbrian half Northumbrian couldn't really ask for two more beautiful counties albeit contrasting

Blencathra my favourite go to High Fell for a summer evening Bimble

The beauty of an evening stroll up Sharp Edge - no crowds.

It's great mate and dead easy to get to from our side of town love the drive by Dalston, Hesket Newmarket and Mungrisdale a lovely part of Cumbria didn't leave home till 5 and was back home well before 10 too.
Doing Halls Fell and Doddick one night this week too

Spot on, one of my favourites from Mungrisedale, up the east ridge of Bannerdale Crags, head for Blencathra, part way up turn off onto a thin track that leads to the foot of Sharp Edge, up to the summit, returning to Mungrisedale by Bowscale Fell, finishing off with a pint and a bowl of chips at the Mill Inn.

Me `n` the Mrs soon moving back, new home near Carlisle nearly sorted, notice put in at work.

I am working on it but the wife's from Surrey so she thinks Carlisle is near Greenland.
We're very lucky though that we do get to spend a lot of time up here. At the moment I'm watching a combination of sun, rain, cloud and shadow work it's way across the back of Skiddaw.
When the sun's out as it sets it can light up Skiddaw red and make it look aflame. It's an amazing sight. Even Wainwright said it brought out the locals in "rapt admiration".
I've camped out a few times half way up Skiddaw and the views across Bassenthwaite Lake and the towards Scotland as the sun goes down are absolutely wonderful.

Once you get past the Southport turn off on the M6 the whole area is a big blob of shite with some nice bits on the outside like Cornwall.

I had the unfortunate pleasure of driving through Hanley recently and talk about rough, it was shocking and all high-rise flats, top of the hill from Farmfoods.

Bought some food and got out of dodge city asap - it made me glad to be alive and not from the area.

Blencathra is one of my favourites but there is no way I amever doing Sharp Edge!

The view over to Scotland from Skiddaw or the Western Fells used to be even better until they had the ridiculuos idea of banging windmills up everywhere. The monstrositys make my eyes burn. Solar panels would've been less intrusive IMO.

Some of the locations look familiar - photos 5 & 6 could be Malham Cove / Gordale Scar Yorkshire Dales.

Correct Yorkie marra.. and what a lovely spot to visit last month.. be heading there again in future,loads to discover..Shame about Dick Turpin prices in Malham pubs though..

You`re right about a lovely spot, and the price of the drink, seems like any tourist spot nowadays charges the same as pubs in that there Lundin.

As I`m on a roll, I`d guess the top photo looks like on Blake Fell looking out over Cogra Moss to the Solway.

Aye youd be much better retreating to Ingleton where the prices are much more sensible and a couple I mentor are doing very well.

Murton Pike, Roman Fell and High Cup Nick are great, I love the Pennines, they are my locals. Can't do the walking I used to do now but see them all from my kitchen window and the view is never the same for more than 15 minutes.

I scattered my husbands ashes on the fell behind Murton Pike, the one that has the radar station at the top. The view from there, particularly in the early morning is very special, with the Eden Valley laid out before you, wonderful.

Dun Fell...Want to get up there at some point walking and also to cycle up to the top.The other side of the that I recently visited Cow Green reservoir and a walk on the pennine way.. was cracking place to go for a few days.. not busy either. Stayed up by Nenthead for 3 days..also took in the mines ..amazing area.

That's the one Mark, the road can be quite busy with fok cycling at weekends but quiet in the week. There is one of those little hills o the road that is an optical illusion, so you appear to be able to roll a marble uphill on it.

I haven't been to Cow Green for a long time, used to go as a kid with my dad because he studied some rare flowers that grew up there. A bleak but awe inspiring place.

The waterfall just below the reservoir, think it's in your last photo is called cauldron snout, always think that's a great name. Certainly got me thinking about a trip out there if and when we get some more decent weather.

At Langdon Beck, good moorland road goes over to Nenthead, great views. Also a road from Garigill to Nenthead.

Yep Bumble its Cauldron Snout.. descending the path to the bottom onto the River Tees was lovely then we followed it in a loop round back to the car park.Different from the usual walks but fascinating. So much more in that area to discover though which is my intention. We acuially spoke to a few photographers on the way down the waterfalls as well so it be perfect for you and your cameras

I was a postie for many years throughout CA16 and have always lived in the area. Keep thinking of moving but it's a hard area to leave. I know what you mean about the South Stainmore area, lovely place to walk (in the summer), but most of it seems to be off the grid.

Never knew you were a postie ( Thats how you can afford those expensive cameras ) Herdwick sheep who comes on here is a postman in Kirkby Stephen.

Weathers been a bit Tom Tit on Sundays atm so difficult to get out as much been taking advantage of some to the Northern Fells on a night Just a 40 min drive to Mosedale, Caldbeck Common or little further to Mungrisdale.
Anyone wanting a shortish not too demanding walk should look no further than Carrock Fell or High Pike 4hrs door to door from the Great Border City

Done Carrock fell last wkend. Got to the top just as the weather closed in. Got some good advice off a fella on twitter, you might know him Alan
