Nice day on the fells today

This has to be the longest running thread !
Temperature must be falling up top, cold enough at base camp today ie my garden !!

First dusting of Snow this morning but another lovely day out nice view from the Priests Hole Cave too.

Remembrance Sunday on Great Gable a couple of Blues spotted amongst the the large turn out.

My son was there with 4 mates,did you see the jag that was wrecked at the bottom?my boy recons a tractor must have took the side off it.

Yeah it was Seathwaite.

Just seen the photos, it would be hard to disagree with the tractor theory - there was about three cars or so smashed and I think that a car wouldn't be in a fit state to drive off after that if it was a car that hit them, you would certainly be able to spot it anyhow.

My new years resolution is to get back out on the fells as it's been too long. Looking to ease myself in at first.

Me to. Went up Skiddaw by Bakestall,off the side by Carl Side and Long Side two Easter’s ago. Never find the time these days,plus spending £££s on golf membership makes me do that on free days.

Me `n` Mrs YB`s 192nd Wainwright, The Nab - walking up from Hartsop, photo looking to the Helvellyn range. Beautiful day but if anyone out there attempts this hill, do it during a drought or freeze, there`s some serious peat haggs just below the summit, all nicely frozen today so good underfoot.

What was Blencathra like, Alan? Looks like you were on one of the edges - was it Sharp Edge? I've walked Striding Edge and really enjoyed it. Sharp Edges looks a bit hairier! How does it compare?

In my opinion Sharp Edge is scarier than the edges on Helvellyn.

It always surprises me that there are numerous falls from Striding Edge but far fewer from Sharp Edge. Possibly the greater popularity of the former accounts for the stats.

1st time out on the fells for about 25yrs today. Absolutely loved it, was a great day weather wise. Just a little one to start with (latrigg), but hopefully get back into it. Don't know how to post pic's and I'm not the best photographer anyhow.

Pretty straight forward but as you say really exposed in some parts where a trip of a slip will result in certain death.
There a 3 sections that I thought were tricky two are steep little climbs up short Chimney type gullies on both of these your head tells you to keep to the inside which makes the scramble difficult the easy way is to bite the bullet and use the decent foot and hand holes on the outer exposed side
It is definitely a heart racer but we'll worth it.
If your thinking of doing it go for it a decent head for Heights is handy, choose a nice day weather wise take your time and do a bit of research (I don't mean type into Google Jacks Rake Deaths Either) enjoy and good luck

It's probably a little too hairy for me to be honest but really enjoyed seeing the photos. My limit is probably Striding Edge which far from being hairy was very enjoyable indeed apart from the steep pull up to the summit at the top.
I once had a heart stopping moment on the Shamrock Traverse on Pillar. It really was a wonderful walk high above Ennerdale - but there's a bit where there's a kind of sloping section and a big gully beneath! - I'm sure you probably know where it is and aren't fazed by it - I made it over it fine but I thought my heart would burst right through my chest!
Ever since then I've been very cautious!

I have nothing but respect for anyone who gets up off their arses these days and does something mate.
As for the 3 fells you mention they are all superb in their own right with wonderful views from a personal point of view I'm trying to pile in as many high and risky walks while I'm still fit enough don't want to spend my later days regretting never done them.

Speaking of Sharp Edge, this log of incidents by the Keswick Mountain Rescue team makes interesting if sobering reading.

Particularly that there’s a drop known as “the usual gully” because that’s where the casualties are usually found.

The term “cragfast” is also interesting - anyone here ever been cragfast?
